He's not that great either though.

He's just kind of there... which, admittedly, could be a lot worse.

This seems to happen with a goalie or two every year. Should the league just have a higher waiver-excemption age for goalies?

Goaltenders who were claimed on waivers this season:

If the Canucks owner allows Benning to, he should be a Canuck tomorrow. However, given that he just allowed Benning to spend money claiming vesey, I can see him not allowing Benning to spend more money now.

Us Canuck fans are surprised the wallet was even opened for vesey whom wasn’t much of a need compared to any goalie

Not completely sure why they're doing this. They've already lost Vesey and the rumour mill was hinting that they were looking for depth forwards. Boyd seems to be the ideal candidate for a depth forward position.

Now that Simmonds and Campbell are back, there is no one left on LTIR.

The Leafs are just a hair under the salary cap with a 21-person roster, and they are in a position to accrue some cap space if they run a 20-person roster.

Boyd is the 13th forward and they running the gambit that he will pass through waivers in hopes that he might continue to be available on the taxi squad while they accumulate his daily salary for another call-up or a trade.

So the Maple Leafs basically traded Jimmy Vesey and Travis Boyd to the Canucks for bupkis...but still "won" the trade.
