Preds lead 2-0 after 20.

A couple thoughts:

I thought Schmiemann looked really good. He hasn't really had any buzz around him since the draft, but I thought he was one of the better Lightning players that period, especially out of the 2019 draft picks. He just turned 18 this summer, but he looks super comfortable out there handling the puck and moving around.

Cal Foote, the other Bolts top pairing Dman looked super steady as well. Nice to see him be involved offensively.

With Salagin, it was nice to see him follow the puck into the corner and make hard contact with a Preds player. Not sure how much of that he's done in the MHL, but stuff like that is cool to see. We know he's got silky hands, so seeing him use his 6'4" frame and work the boards will be super encouraging.

How bad the D is is overrated. The Lightning can't get into the house because of the organizational aversion to size & strength.

Schmiemann - Foote looks fine but the 2nd and 3rd pair not so much. Baby Bolts having a hard time down low in their own zone and breakouts are not clean.

They just have Fabbro in this tournament for some reason. We should call Cernak to balance things out.

I'm pretty satisfied with the Solar Bear guys (also the Feete). They aren't trying to do anything fancy. All that stuff gets punished by the Preds.

He looked pretty bad in these things last year as well. Probably just takes a bit for him to get going.

It's really hard to judge these guys all things considered but I'm pretty happy with Shalagin after 1 game. I think this is a positive sign for what's to come in Syracuse. Some good stuff from fellow '19 draft picks Cajkovic and Schmiemann too.
