Kid should've been lit up. Not sure what the Rd was doing.

Still I think he scored another one like that in the same game or something.

He is going to be a very slippery guy from what I saw at the Hlinka. He has great body control, Datsyuk should have gotten hit a lot more than he did too... There is a talent to that. I think he is a top 5 guy in this coming draft no question.

Stop pushing him at Wings pick range... :)

We have a need to draft a center and my god if this guy keeps the highlight show going and we have a chance to draft him...

...still would go with BPA if he's there? Another winger on the mix.

Draper said he liked Broberg, Podkolzin, and Cozens at the Hlinka. Cozens seems to fit the mold for what we have been picking lately.

I would sign off on 2 Dylan's down the middle. LH and RH would be nice too.

First time I ever checked these 2019 guys I liked Dach. I still like him, so Getzlaf-like.

Fine with Cozens too. I just so hope we get a good righty center. It would fix our future power-play.

I like Cozens, Dach, and Suzuki for RH centers. They all played good at the Hlinka, but I liked Cozens overall game the best personally. Dach and Suzuki both look like really good playmakers.

For the USA guys I like Turcotte a lot and obviously Hughes.

I really don't know much about Newhook, I'll have to wait to comment on him.

Cozens really fits the style of player we've targeted in the Tyler Wright era. He's big, fast and has great work ethic. Some people are doubtful of him having elite upside. He screams "Tyler pick me."

Personally I'm hoping for Byram at this point but we're a long way from the draft.

So these are averages from 8 different ranks I've picked here and there.

Rank number also excludes the highest and the lowest rank to avoid some homerisms. :)

That Moritz Seider is interesting. Huge 6'4 right-handed German defenceman, has scored a lot of goals as a Defenceman. Without seeing him ever play, I could imagine guy has deadly shot from the point. :)

Could be nice try with one of our 2nd round picks.

you never know how kids will progress . It is great that we had 21 pics last 2 years and we already have 11 more this comin year . I like to see as draft more players like Jonatan Berggren .Late birthday smaller high skill forward . They have more higher potential than bigger pics. On defense pics should be at least 6 feat and preferably from Sweden.

Height has nothing to do with higher potential. A guy being 5'9 or 5'10 just means he has way more to overcome to be an NHLer. And why do defense have to be from Sweden? They should just be drafting the best dman.

Interested to know why you have Vasili Podkolzin as low as 17th? From what I’ve seen of him and in all the mocks he looks like a lock for top 10.

It looks like a combination of rankings. My guess is not every service has updated since the Hlinka. He should catapult up the draft board as soon as that happens. He really did remind me of Pavel at times during that.... Which is yeah, very high praise.

This is a rank of averages and in all early ranks he was lower. He will rise, probably more than anybody, as I will insert some rank updates on the average.

I agree. I really like your list otherwise. Hopefully the wings can nab a few of them in the first top 40 or whatever their first 3 picks will be.

taller players have more advantages at junior level and they don't need to compete as much as others 5'10"-6'1"is ideal size for forwards . Swedish defense is the best in the world , just like Russian wingers and North American centers

Taller players have more advantages at every level. I would take Provorov over Lilja. I would take Laine over Namestnikov.

I dont see your point. Sweden has good D so does Canada and to an extent the states. The wings should be taking the best players who cares about nationality

just read first 2 sentences from original post

generally national teams from Russia and Finland has better offence then defense and Sweden just opposite

And yes we should draft the best available player , problem is its hard to project defensive prospect , wingers is easier but how many of them do we need?

Redefining what "pro size" means, and why Carey Price is a physical freak

Old but but still very important and great article about players height.

In every sport, the high wingspan guys seem to be the most talented ones.

Pavel Datsyuk was the best example. He was 5'10 but with 6'1 wingspan at least. Everybody remembers those "monkey" arms and his dangling because of them.

It gives a bigger puck control area in hockey, which is huge factor for players ability.

My friend is 6'2 with 6'7 and my god he is good in every sport just naturally. We always joke about those monkey arms. I have exact same wingspan as my own height 5'10.

I'm a human and my friend is a monkey. :)

I don't share this concern. Someone on the prospect board said he is reminiscent of Eric Staal, and that is who he reminds me of offensively.

Dach looked like Getzlaf, so there we go. Without any high picks we have to choose between "Eric Staal" or "Ryan Getzlaf". Or If you somehow end up winning the lottery, you take the "Patrick Kane" who plays at center.

Not a bad draft. :)
