I don't even need #1. I'd be happy with #2 or #3 as well. May the balls be ever in our favor.
Oddly, I'd almost *prefer* to get #2/3 than #1.
If we get #1, we need to trade it...and I have no faith in the Canes to pass on Dahlin.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.....in the Canes favor....hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!If there was ever a year for the NHL to rig it in our favor, it has to be this year right?
And with #11 pick in 2018 Entry Draft, Carolina Hurricanes are proud to select blablablaba
His name is Ty Smith. 5’10, 170 lbs LHD out of the WHL. Elite skater!
Let’s not draft Canadian defensemen for a while, ok?

He’s projected to go top 4-7 in the draft...not sure I’d call that a dark horse. I agree, though, that he could end up the best forward taken this year. He’s got all the tools.Wahlstrom is my dark horse to be one of the best forwards of the draft.

Unless the Canes win one of the top 3 picks, I am sticking by my position that they need a RW with Stempniak almost certainly leaving and Williams in his last year. Gauthier might yet reach the potential that made him a first-rounder. But otherwise the organization does not have a RW with a 50+ point ceiling.
The two in the coming draft who do have that potential are Bokk and Kaut. For most of the 17-18 season I was much higher on Bokk. Now I would give Kaut a moderate edge.
However, I think we might luck into the best player available being a RW, which I agree is a position of need, if we're feeling brave enough to take a Russian.

Habs will win the lottery.
So as an intellectual exercise here is an "ideal" 2018 draft for Carolina--presumes they draft 11, 42, 73, etc.
1st round--Kaut (I have made my argument already)
2nd--Jake Wise (dropped a long way on many rankings, now on his way back up; would be great at 42)
3rd--Ty Emberson (RHD with some size; the organization needs more D depth)
4th--Linus Nyman (overager not in a lot of top 100 lists, but a ton of upside for a smaller player)
6th--Carl Wassenius (word is that he is not a strong skater, but he puts up points at every level)
7th--Simon Johansson (another overager, this time a taller RHD who has shown offensive upside)
7th--Linus Karlsson (completely off the radar, yet a player who was second top scorer in a top junior league this season)
Kaut at 11 is a huge reach, maybe trade down to get a few more picks?
