What type of player is he though? What are his strength's and weaknesses? What sets him apart from others and worthy of an 11 oa pick? (speed, skating, shot, hockey sense, etc..).
For fans with a vested interest in teams outside the playoff picture, Sportsnet presents the 2018 NHL Draft Lottery on Saturday, April 28 on Sportsnet, CBC and Sportsnet NOW. The NHL Draft Lottery special, hosted by Daren Millard and NBC’s Kathryn Tappen, will unveil the lottery results through the course of the evening. Picks 15 through 4 will be revealed during Hockey Central Saturday beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET / 4:30 p.m. PT, with the top three picks unveiled during the second intermission of the San Jose vs. Vegas game.
The “Maximum Chaos” Ranking
When in doubt, root for whichever outcome would result in the biggest meltdown.
Not ranked:
Carolina Hurricanes: This is the one result that would leave everyone else in the league to just kind of shrug and go “Sure, I guess that’s fine.”
Winning a top spot in the lottery would give this board something to be positive about for the next 2-3 months. At least until Dahlin or Svechnikov refuses to sign and demands a trade.

Bouchard was the very clear No. 5 prospect on the Draft Lottery edition rankings, a notable cut below the Big Four but also notably ahead of the rest of the draft class, including the three other defencemen who appear locked and loaded as Top 10 picks this year
The craziest part about missing the playoffs for 9 straight years is that we’ve never picked higher than 5th in any of the subsequent drafts.
All these teams talking about how they “deserve” some lottery luck, how about the team that refuses to tank (as the NHL is hoping for), seemingly to the detriment of the franchise?
Experience the Redvolution!Looked into this out of curiosity:
- The Oilers have had 4 1s, a 3, and a 4 since we last made the playoffs
- The Coyotes have even more “unlucky” draft position than we do, they’ve had one top 5 pick since we last made the playoffs, and unfortunately for them it was Dylan Strome.
- The Lightning have had 2 top 3 picks since we last made the playoffs
- The Islanders have had 5 top 5 picks since we last made the playoffs
- The Sabres have had 2 top 2 picks since we last made the playoffs
- The Canucks have had similar luck, with just two #5 OA picks, but of course have also won a Presidents trophy and made the Finals since 09.
Edit: also, as we are painfully aware, every team in the league has made the playoffs since we last did, including the Golden Knights.
