If our secondary scoring goes dry for a couple weeks people will change their mind about a trade.
I agree with this although I don't personally feel we need to do anything. The Leafs went out and got Muzzin. So what? He's an okay D-man and about on par with our third best D-man (Stralman). I don't think the Leafs doing something should motivate us to do anything. We need to stay the course and not let outside influences distract us.If we are going to do something we should do it quick so the new player/s can have as many games as possible to adjust to our system. Waiting for the deadline is just stupid tbh.
We only won't have a first round pick this year if we win the stanley cupWe do not need to do anything at the TD. Why risk messing with the chemistry, and reducing our prospects, which we will need next year to fill gaps. Also we wont have a first this year, so keeping our others picks is important to restock the cupboard.
Exactly! We only won't have a first round pick this year if we win the stanley cup
ya but that means we will need to score goals in games 6 and 7 ?Exactly!
He went on record saying there will be no negotiations until off-season. Given their current situation I'd say he's untouchable right now. Wanna convince him to stay? PlayoffsWe really don’t know if Panerin is available or not yet do we?
Martinez = no Karlsson under any circumstancesWith Karlsson and Panarin staying put I don't think there are many options out there that would intrigue us or push us over the top - let alone options that a feasable from a salary cap pov. Martinez I guess...?

I think we may make a move for a guy as 4th line C insurance in case Paquette gets dinged up. Any other spot we have an internal answer for since we have like 2 centers on each line, but we don't really have someone that can slot in as 4C if Paquette isn't 100% unless we bring up someone from Syracuse.I think we can forget defense until the offseason. Realistically JBB may add a spare fwd, maybe a FO specialist (Zajac? Glendening? Good ole Nate Thompson?). Still will keep my hopes up for treating Columbus like Blockbuster and renting Panarin for a few weeks.
His agent has shut down renegotiation talksWe really don’t know if Panerin is available or not yet do we?
Yeah I think this is the most likely scenario. Miller could be a 4c in a jam but (assuming - for the moment - we're keeping him this spring) we're better off with him on wing. It's why I wonder if Nate Thompson isn't who we were targeting from LAK back when our scouts were all over each other.I think we may make a move for a guy as 4th line C insurance in case Paquette gets dinged up. Because Thompson isn't very good anymore. His agent has shut down renegotiation talks

I don't think he was ever "very good", but I never bought the AMart/Muzzin hype. I think he's still a reasonable 4th liner, he's 29th in the league in terms of FO% among top 100 FO takers in the league (Stammer is 17th, next highest is Ceddy at 43rd). We could do better, but we could do worse.Because Thompson isn't very good anymore.
It's more than faceoffs though. We're not looking for a Konopka. We need a guy that can play with pace and forecheck like a demon. Thompson isn't that - especially anymore.I don't think he was ever "very good", but I never bought the AMart/Muzzin hype. We'd be happy to give them a 3-for-1 deal. Miller, Gourde, and Callahan...hehehe..I think if they slide out of the playoffs then its possible but they are in the thick of it right now. Wouldnt want to trade him if I was in that situation. You basically would be eliminating any chances in the playoffs by trading him. However they may be tempted in a Miller and Gourde trade. They get two players with term which I think is valuable in their situation. Normally for players like that they would have to overpay in FA or draft them. Get Panarin and put Erne in lineup full time. I dont think it would work but maybe something we can do.

True, and good points. Part of my comment was my own musing about the uncertainty regarding the scouting we and LAK we're doing on each other back in December (like I said, never bought the idea we were after defense). I tend to believe we could get away with one slower guy on a line (Killer!) but you're absolutely right that Thompson doesn't fit the "Lightning mold" JBB outlined a few weeks back. It's more than faceoffs though.
