I mean - we have one RD under contract for next season, so this is one of those "hockey trades" rather than a pure rental.

Like I said - I think it'd be intriguing. Risto has a good shot and can play physical. He can't move the puck particularly well, but seeing him on a good defensive unit properly slotted instead of as a shutdown #1 (which is way over his head) is intriguing.
Probably you're right and I'm impressed from the last game we've played against the Sabres...And I remember what Risto did on Kucherov xD xD
In case, btw, I hope, BriseBois won't pay for him a too high price.

Maybe a 2020 1st + prospect + dump, and maybe a conditional pick based on postseason success?

So like - 2020 1st + Katchouk/Raddysh + Callahan (Buffalo is almost assuredly not on his NT list) for Risto. That'd be a price I could swallow, although it makes this offseason even more complicated.

So, 2 prospects + a vet like Callahan...mah...let's see what happens...I've some doubts about it.

It feels like a shot in the dark and this guy a) isn't even a Buffalo reporter, and b) certainly ain't Friedman/McKenzie.

You think Foote or Sergachev would go the other way in a Ristolainen deal?

I don't think Buffalo parts ways with Risto tbh. Seems so out of the blue.

I still think they look into an offer for Simmonds and not much else. I was hoping they'd try and get Panerin but CBJ are going for a run and probably won't trade him. Plus it would be too expensive, I would have been fine with a rental Panarin though to really put us over the edge, would be totally worth it if it led us to a Cup

Risto makes more sense than either Simmonds or McQuaid. At least this guy could play a role for us, and we could keep him next year when Stralman most likely walks. He wouldn't be over his head here like he is in Buffalo. Most likely a 3rd pairing role, or maybe next to Hedman, but Hedman's not dealing with the tough assignments anymore.

So, for this playoffs, we'd be looking at:

Hedman - Ristolainen
McDonagh - Cernak
Sergachev - Stralman
(Coburn, Girardi; with Coburn likely swapping in if Sergachev gets overwhelmed.)

Everybody gets a babysitter, and, if Risto can't handle it, we swap him with Stralman.

Next year:

Hedman - Ristolainen
McDonagh - Cernak
Sergachev - Foote/Cheap UFA

...It definitely makes a bit of sense. Does make us a better team than we are now. Rock solid on all three pairs for this coming post-season, with safety nets (Stralman, Coburn) in place.
