The offersheet can be just a one year contract at max, then they will have to pay him max to match it, and they will be forced to pay him max (or near max, when the caps go up), for the next extention... or it is not a QO...
So you think he will sign each year for so much money that he has to play with min salary linemates and never have a chance to win?? Yeah that sounds like a reasonable plan for a player??

Point is, it is in one year to break free...

One year on max salary, Yotes could handle (cap-wise.) How much he signs for from year 2 would be up to him... then he would be UFA, as it's impossible to go QO on max.

Gotta give Matthews something term-wise that he would sign for insurance in the case of catastrophic injury. Either you give him enough term to get him to UFA status ASAP or you just ask him how many years he wants and then give him max money at that term.

Toronto would be stupid to let him even get to July 1 without a contract and even more stupid to not match, but it sends a message to Matthews that we really want him badly.

I asked Pens fans to rank their D and Oleksiak generally fell in the 5-7 range.

I think the money works on Goligoski+Panik for Kessel+Oleksiak.

The value obviously favors us tremendously, as the gap between Goligoski and Oleksiak is narrower than the chasm between Kessel and Panik. Still, given that Goligoski > Oleksiak, it might help take the bite out of the acquisition cost on Kessel.

As for dollars and cap hits:

Phil Kessel-(Cash) Cap
1. 18/19 - (5.95) 6.80
2. 19/20 - (5.95) 6.80
3. 20/21 - (5.10) 6.80
4. 21/22 - (5.10) 6.80

J.Oleksiak-(Cash) Cap
1. 18/19 - (1.95) 2.138
2. 19/20 - (1.96) 2.138
3. 20/21 - (2.50) 2.138
4. 21/22 - (0.00) 0.00

Pittsburgh-(Cash) Cap
1. 18/19 - (7.90) 8.938
2. 19/20 - (7.91) 8.938
3. 20/21 - (7.60) 8.938
4. 21/22 - (5.10) 6.800

Goligoski- (Cash) Cap
1. 18/19 - (6.10) 5.48
2. 19/20 - (5.80) 5.48
3. 20/21 - (4.00) 5.48

Dick Panik-(Cash) Cap
1. 18/19 - (2.80) 2.80
2. 19/20 - (0.00) 0.00
3. 20/21 - (0.00) 0.00

Coyotes - (Cash) Cap
1. 18/19 -(8.90) 8.28
2. 19/20 -(5.80) 5.48
3. 20/21 -(5.80) 5.48

This year the Coyotes cash commitment (without proration) would have been lower with Kessel+Oleksiak than Panik+Goligoski by 1.00 million real-dollars.

This year the Penguins cap commitment (without proration) would have been lower with Panik+Goligoski than Kessel+Oleksiak by 0.66 million in cap hit.

If we were to retain 35% on Panik (without proration) it would bring the cash to even-money and reduce the cap for Pittsburgh by 1.66 million (without proration).

So what completes the following proposal:

To PIT:
Alex Goligoski
Panik(35% retained)

To ARI:
Phil Kessel
J. Oleksiak

???

Two conditional draft picks that Pittsburgh and use along with the cap space in a parlay for an asset? A top 5 protected 2019 1st that slides to an unprotected 2020 first? And a 2nd in whichever year the first isn't?

Keller-Schmaltz-Kessel
Galchenyuk-Stepan-Fischer
Grabner-Richardson-Stroza
Crouse-Cousins-Archibald

OEL-Lyubushkin
Chychrun-Hjammer
Oleksiak-Oesterle
Connauton

Maybe also move Connauton for Jan Rutta (for a million bucks extra):

OEL-Rutta
Chychrun-Hjammer
Oleksiak-Oesterle
Lyubushkin

I admire the work, rt. If I am understanding correctly:

Goligoski
Panik (w/retention)
1st (protected either 19' or 20')
2nd (opposite year of the 1st)

For

Kessel
Oleksiak

Yes, I do that, for sure. Is that enough, though?

I would think that the boys in Boston and NY (all 3 clubs) have a more vested interest in putting Toronto into cap hell than we do. Let them do the offer sheeting and the we can try to catch an apple as it falls off the Toronto tree.

Honestly, the only way that Matthews come here is if he wants to and either forces the issue now or waits for his UFA year. I still don't understand why he would want to play in his hometown.

Sounds like Blackhawks want to make some cap room by dealing some defenseman. Not endorsing this move, but Duncan Keith's total salary owed over the next four years is $2.44m per. Cap hit his ~$5.8m. Seems like the kind of contract Chayka likes. Any chance he looks for a deal and if he does, how cheap would it be to acquire Keith?

Keith has faded almost as hard as his salary. Same with Seabrook. Oesterle is the prototypical player the Coyotes should be trading for; youngish, mobile, cheap both in dollars and acquisition cost.

So, Pickard finally gets to try next game, or what? Unless Kuemper is back?

I guess I was wrong in thinking Hill should start the Sharks-game. But that's 20/20 and all of that.

How was Hill, really? Sharks laughs of him in their thread, but he seemed good to me. So not blaiming him, don't get me wrong. Just thinking Pickard should have started if it was a rewind-day. To just try something else.

I think it's going to be a rollercoaster all season. Win streak, lose streak, win streak, lose streak...
With the injuries we have that rollercoaster might be a thing of the past. We need these players back, and fast or this season will be toast by the end of the month. Raanta has to get his a-- back.

Yeah, it's not only Raanta who has had more of his share of this. As frustrated as the rest of you about him. But it's not only him. I must say I dislike it when people seems to get angry when they talk about him being unlucky.

It's a ton of injuries here.

Let him heal his bone bruise. Sounds awful for a profesional athlete to get injured a lot. I hope it don't break his psyche.

He was OK, but it seemed like an opposing team finally realized that the 5 hole is the place to shoot on a goalie who's 6'6".

Agreed in juries are adding up. We need to survive this stretch, but I thought we were in the last 2 games against good teams, so not too bad. As for Raanta, he has never played a starters load for various reasons and might never. This is why Chayka was smart with the term and dollars, he is unproven. we are fortunate Hill and Keumper have played as well as they have in spurts. Hot hand should play and that includes Raanta if and when he returns.
