Hey guys is Lindblom pretty much guaranteed on this roster next season? I know JVR signing has bumped him down the depth chart so is he still going to be around bottom 6? or will he be back in the minors and have a AHL/NHL type season?

He is a near-lock to be in the top-9 next year. JVR will likely bump him to the 3rd line, but you never know.

Though an idea that has been thrown around here a little bit is putting JVR on the 3rd line and Lindblom 2nd.

JVR-Frost-Simmonds

-Lindblom had great chemistry w/ Patrick and Voracek.
-JVR has traditionally gotten very advantageous minutes so giving him sheltered 5v5 minutes w/ Frost and Simmonds could be a interesting move.

There is a good amount of flexibility in the roster. But, in the end I think JVR is going to be on the 2nd and Lindblom the 3rd.

Some of this will be determined in TC, depending on how combinations look together, and this can change during the season, as we've seen.
Frost is the wilcard, and I think in the back of Ron's mind is the thought that he's going to make the team, but he doesn't want to put undue pressure (or media attention) on the kid.

I also get the feeling that Hextall wants Frost. But, openly saying Frost is his guy or is the favorite at this stage will be of no benefit.

JVR will be on the left side with Patrick. Sure he may slide down occasionally to the 3rd if the lines arent working in game from time to time but I would bet the farm JVR is the primary 2nd line LW.
Like most of us I am not sure of the 3C slot as it will be a wide open competition at camp. Competition is a good thing

Hextall said a few weeks ago it likely would be a two year deal or Hagg would just accept his QO. Hakstok playing Hagg in a top four role last year plus hits & +/- probably has Hagg’s camp thinking otherwise.

Raffl - Laughton - NAK could drive play on a 4th line, I'm just not sold on Lindblom - Laughton - Simmonds, because it would neither be a top checking line or a good offensive grouping - and that could be a bad thing.
Like I've said, 3rd and 4th lines may get similar minutes next year.

One key for Laughton is to show he can be a plus PK guy. Raffl, Couts, Laughton, Simmonds would keep Giroux off the PK and his minutes down.
If NAK and/or Lindblom can handle PK, even better.

Favorite players don't get benched for a month and average 9:12 a night on ES.

Leier fell off the cliff after the first two months and Weise, well . . . nor was Read a viable option at ES.

Even with Lindblom up, you had Filppula, Simmonds, Raffl, Laughton and you had to dress two other forwards.
If Weal is one (at you Striiker!), then it's one of Lehtera, Leier, Weise or Read, all four of whom sucked the second half of the season.
And of course, Weal and Weise didn't play on the PK. Read was the best at PK, the worst at ES. Leier was awful at both in the new year, Lehtera was meh.

This year Lindblom, Simmonds, Raffl, Laughton, need two forwards to step up and glue Lehtera to the bench.
If you can't beat out Lehtera and Weise, you don't have a NHL future.

Still I think I'll give Hak the benefit of the doubt (maybe it's all part of the plan or maybe he is on drugs....maybe both) and wait this year to really make a call, he is kind of a rookie in the nhl and never really had a decent lineup...I mean if you give me a hammer to screw, I'll stair you with half close eye and hammer the screw just to show you how wrong and stupid you are. Maybe it's the case with Lethera and Manning?

Manning was offered 3 years by Nashville, thought Lavi (you know he had input) was a brilliant coach ? And signed to a two year deal by Chicago, the franchise with 3 rings the last decade?
They could have signed Folin for 1/3 the money.
Maybe the people here just aren't very good at judging NHL talent?

Lehtera was the scrub Hakstol had the most confidence in, that doesn't mean he was any good, just that the others were as bad or worse.

This was the price of rebuilding, Flyers played a lot of marginal players in roles they would never sniff on a deep team.
Hopefully, if they don't get hit by a string of injuries and some young players don't regress, those days are over.

The lineup he had is no excuse.

He chose to play obviously inferior players over the superior ones. A 1/10 and a 3/10 both suck, but nobody can argue that 1 is more than 3, so saying both are bad doesn't matter.

The biggest issue is that he clearly doesn't have the evaluation skills to recognize who's good and who's bad. He looks at that 1/10 and thinks it's an 8/10. All because he plays favorites and is a hockey dinosaur that still thinks grit and strength are more important than skill and smarts.

Didn't you argue that scrubs on the Flyer's roster are Hextall's fault, not the coaches? So OTHER teams' coaches get input on who to sign and put on the roster, but Hack doesn't. How convenient. And Chicago has proven they love signing terrible contracts the last 3 or 4 years, so using them as a gauge is laughable.

* Hak gets more out of his defense on offense
* You don't need a high powered 3rd line, given they play 12-13 v 15-16 minutes, 40 ES goals would be great, 30 would be solid, so our 3C just has to be "good enough"

The Sharks apparently want to shed some cap, and we know Hextall wants to add a PK forward. So how about a trade of Laughton ($962,500 cap hit) + pick for Tierney (2,937,500 cap hit)? He was San Jose's leading PK forward.
