Not me, Gudas is our only defensive D-man that is worth a crap. Plays hard everynight., hits, blocks shots and gets his nose dirty for teammates.

I like Gudas, and he's been great. I just think it's easier to replace a 2nd pair dman than to find a dynamic forward.

Wayne Simmonds at his best isn't even close to Nylander. Simmonds is the one who's been a passenger, not Nylander.

Only difference is 5 more minutes a night for Sanheim, 2 less for Hagg, 3 less for MacDonald/Folin.
On the other hand, Sanheim on the 1st pair has played far worse than Sanheim on the 3rd pair with Gudas, at least his metrics are far worse.

Real difference is probably goaltending,
Hakstol .881
Gordon .904 (Hart .920)

You say that like those aren't dramatic changes.

In the 14 games since Gordon replaced Hakstol:

Sanheim: 14 GP, 1 G, 2 A, 3 PTS, -10, 22 SOG, 21:31 TOI, 49.25% Corsi

For all the talk how Sanheim was the team's best defenseman, and his previously solid metrics had little to do with his sheltered usage, and Hakstol was a moron, well.......... his numbers suck since being moved to a prominent role.

BTW, Laughton, who hasn't been getting enough criticism on this board, IMO, has 0 goals & 3 assists in his last 14 games despite averaging 15:08 per game.

Charlie posted the numbers of pairings the other day. Sanheim and Provorov have been fine together, better than Provorov's previous numbers.

They've been God Awful together.

Since Gordon took over:

Sanheim: 14 GP, 1 G, 2 A, 3 P, -10, 21:31 TOI, 49.25% Corsi,
Provorov: 14 GP, 1 G, 2 A, 3 P, -12, 24:57 TOI, 49.37% Corsi

That's about as bad a first pairing as it gets.

It makes sense to play Sanheim more now that the season's lost, but playing him more wouldn't have saved the season.
Like Myers, he's going to have some growing pains before he's a reliable defenseman.
However, I hate the pairing with Provorov, neither is comfortable on the right side.
Ghost has played better with Gudas than he did with Provorov as well.

Veteran RHD, Myers, Gudas as your RHD and Provorov, Sanheim, Ghost/Morin as your LHD.
Friedman/Hagg as your 7th D-man.
Put that together next season and you'll see a big jump on defense.

Provorov and Sanheim are getting scorched in goals against and not providing any offense despite being first and second on the team in TOI. Once again Charlie makes the mistake of acting like the scoreboard goes by Corsi instead of goals.

I'm sorry, you must have me confused for some other member of the hive. I never claimed (or thought) that Sanheim's metrics didn't benefit greatly from how Hakstol utilized him. Hakstol still sucks though, because playing Hagg & MacDonald WAY MORE than Sanheim should have been and will always be a firable offense. I'm not even talking metrics, just for the sake of the future of the club!

These aren't even the pairings I want. I don't like Sanheim playing on the right and I want to balance out the ice time of the top two pairs a little better.

Provorov / Ghost (fingers crossed it works again)
Sanheim / Gudas
Hagg (for now) / Myers

Make it so!

The player I want the most on this team next year is Mark Stone. I think he could be the perfect RW for Coots allowing G to play with Patrick. Not sure if we would need to trade for him before the deadline or if they are confident trade for his rights before UFA starts.

I want him too, but he needs to play with a dynamic center imo. I would put him with Frost next season.

I'm honestly worried about his speed declining too. His hockey IQ is off the charts but he'll likely get a long term deal. Outstanding player though.

He was decent early in the year but has been kind of invisible of late but I never really liked him as a player, he is what he is, personally I’d be happy if they traded him OR made him a mainstay on the 4th line

3.74 GA per game really is abysmal. As a comparison what are the goals for per game.

Doesn’t take a genius to see that a Hagg-Folin pairing is and will continue to be a disaster.

Ghost-Gudas makes sense based on each other’s strengths and weaknesses. They seem to be balancing out which is nice.
