If a player is NHL ready, he's going to push past AHL veterans just off his on ice play - you can say Gordon played "favorites," but Laughton was the 1C at ES, Weal played in the top 6. Leier showed when he came up he's a bottom six guy at best and needs more AHL time. AK didn't shine, Bardeau is a marginal talent, Martel is grossly undersized and so on.
Point is a lot of prospects are decent, but not special and need years to polish their game. Read was a year older than MV when he broke into the Flyer's lineup. Weal needed 3+ AHL seasons to make the transition.
But special players, like Lindblom, force the coach's hand by simply making it obvious that he's the best player on the team.
Vorobyov shouldn't have much of an adjustment to NA hockey coming out of the KHL, so I'd think in the end his PT will be determined by his play, not Gordon's "love" of veterans. If Vorobyov plays a solid two way game, shows he's raised his skating up a notch, and sets up his linemates like he did at the WJC, he'll be in the top six by January.
