MacDonald and Giroux should not sniff the PK.

PK1
Couturier - Simmonds
Provorov - Gudas

PK2
Filppula - Read/Raffl/Laughton/Patrick
Morin - Hagg

Some of you guys are ignoring the reality of who played the most PK or PP minute per game the past two seasons. Like it or not we can't have our best guys all playing top PP and top PK while being expected to improve at ES.

So Hagg is not only going to definitely make the team but will also completely remove MacDonald and Manning from the PK? Incredible imagination at work there.

Couts and Simmonds averaged 1:30 on the PK last year, Couts might be taken off the 2nd PP, while Simmonds to be honest is a mediocre ES player, for some reason. So no problem here.

Players expend more energy on the PK than the PP (though that may change with the new PP coach).

Given the depth this year, you want your best PP players to spend as much time there as reasonable, since you're not putting out a 4th line to kill minutes to let them rest, the fourth line should be pretty solid this year and capable of holding their own.

And of course Provocop could play 25 minutes a night if need be.

MacDonald has no business on the PK, do you want to see him rag dolled trying to clear the crease again? Do you really think Hagg would do a worse job on the PK? I'd rather watch Morin and Hagg go through some growing pains, because they'll provide some serious muscle when teams try to collapse around our goalies.

I'm not sure how much Manning will dress this year, depends on how fast Morin, Hagg and Sanheim adjust to the NHL.

You'll need to let your buddy Hakstol know these truths you've stumbled across.

MacDonald had the highest SH TOI/GP on the team last year averaging almost a full minute more than Gudas, but you think Hak will take him off PK1 and PK2 entirely because of two rookies.

There's that complete denial again.

Everything Hakstol did was because he was forced to and had no other options. He's actually a great coach guys!!!

Nothings his fault, you can't blame him for a single thing. He's perfect.

MacDonald had no business on the PK because of lack of strength, but yet the stronger Gudas averaged only 1:54 in SH TOI compared to 2:50 for MacDonald.

Seems like it would have been pretty easy to play Gudas more on the PK and MacDonald less, and MDZ and Schultz wouldn't have even come into it.

Do you think they have a bench press competition before the season to see who gets the most PK time?

Zilch, zero, nada. They're not sending him away to Brandon and monitoring his health from afar.

Provorov isn't a great comparison since he only had one WHL season when he was drafted, and it's harder for an 18/19 year old to play defense in the NHL than it is for a 19 year old forward.

Great point.

They misdiagnosed his injury over there. Hextall will ensure the kid stays nearby.

Trying to project the PP is pretty difficult assuming Knoblauch isn't going to retain the stationary umbrella that they made work. I think projecting anybody other than Giroux, Simmonds, and Ghost on the first unit is guesswork right now.

Jake is probably a safe bet to be on PP1 because of how good he is at zone entries and puck retrieval/protection.

Any player who gets signed to a two year, one way deal gets talked about. Whether they're a first rounder like Laughton or undrafted like Vecchione.

Hextall didn't protect and sign him because of where he was drafted back in 2012 when Hextall was in LA.

He'd get talked about more if he were a 2nd rounder.

If he was drafted in the 2nd round, with that shot and speed, he'd be viewed far more favorably.
