I don't understand the dismay with the JUpton contract.

If he doesn't opt out it could be a bad contract for quite a few years. We'll see.

It's not so much his age. It's if his bat trends down. He's pretty useless without his bat. If he maintains through the contract He'll be fine. I'm just not a fan of deals beyond 4 years.

The thing about black was yes it was botched but no one else snagged him up either. If he was as valuable as the stat heads said he was wouldn't he have been hired in another managerial capacity?

At this point the only conclusion is that some teams must think Cespedes is older than the listed age.

Black had his choice of managerial jobs. He chose the Nats. That got massively botched by WSH, so now he's a special assistant to the GM of the club he started his coaching career with.

I'd say Black had something to do with what he wanted to do.

Dusty Baker is the type of manager that can get you to the dance but his decisions never put his teams over the top. Horrible with his bullpen.

I don't think 5 years for Cespedes is a very good idea.

He just finished a 4 year deal and only played fewer than 130 games once.

As long as the money is reasonable 4-5 years isn't that outrageous. Just whichever team he signs for shouldn't get to excited when he's hot or too down when he isn't. He's just a streaky player.

That tends to be the Tigers MO when it comes to handing out contracts. Good at first, going to be awful within a few years.
