It's insane how awful the Nucks are at cap management:

PlayerAAVYears Remaining
Loui Eriksson$6 mil3
Tyler Myers$6 mil5
Brandon Sutter$4.375 mil2
Tanner Pearson$3.75 mil2
Antoine Roussel$3 mil3
Jay Beagle$3 mil3
Tim Schaller$1.9 mil1
[TBODY] [/TBODY]
They're a rebuilding team, with lots of their top talent on rookie deals, and they're still in cap hell because they give out non-stop terrible contracts to scrubs. The above 7 players are costing them over $28 mil in cap hit, most of that locked in for 3+ years, and the only one who's deserves more than about $1.5 mil/year is Myers. They're paying replacement level players like core pieces, and didn't even save enough $$ to sign a true core piece in Boeser.

I really like Vancouver's young talent (Pettersson, Boeser, Horvat, Hughes, Demko, Podkolzin, etc.), but they need to get rid of Benning SO badly. It's inexcusable for a rebuilding team to be locked into cap hell for the next 3 years due to consistently overpaying scrubs like crazy.
What a stupid post. Not one of those contracts is an anchor, nor does it have any issues signing player's going forward. Rouselle, Beagle, Sutter, Myers,.Pearson, are all decent to good players. Nucks have tons of cap coming off every year for the next 3 years. These contracts are a non issue.

to be fair Ericksson and Sutters are bad contracts. rest is ok and decent. People just want to dump on Myers for the sake of it because he was signed by the Canucks. It's a hfboards.com thing to do.

But then he's not wasting a spot on the Canucks. He simply isn't an NHLer at this point and his comments are unacceptable from a black ace.

Solid defensively, good on the PK and he still produce 29 points. He was big part of the 11th best PK in the nhl ( the few stats that Canucks were actually good at)

Overpaid? Yes of course but he is still an nhl player.

Contracts like this add up. I don't know enough to evaluate all the contracts individually, but lets take the claim that they are all worth at most 1.5M, or so. If they were signed for an average of 2M, to be generous for what a GM should be able to do, that adds up to about 14M in cap space.

That is enough to sign any player in the league with left over, or 2 solid first liners, or a full second line

Agreed. This would've also saved them from giving up a first for Miller. It all adds up.

What about Bobby Ryan with salary retention? (Assuming Melnyk would accept a retention deal)

Ryan is more useful than Erickson. Ottawa won’t need to retain and it’s not like Eugene would retain anyways on a multi year contract lmao.

Behind you, look out
Just get Eriksson to get a doctors note stating he is allergic to the hockey equipment and then trade him to Ottawa where the insurance will cover 80%

He would already be in Ottawa if he didn't have a NTC...

The buyout for Lucic is
3.2
4.9
3.6
4.9
.5
.5
.5
.5

Eriksson's is
5.5
5.5
3.5
.6
.6
.6

Those 2 years of 5.5 are very tough to swallow. The Lucic buyout pushes the additional year of 4.9 four years down the road. When you're talking cap, the big issues are: delaying and total amount.
Why are you doing buyouts for this summer? That’s like including what Edmonton is hit with for Lucic. Makes no sense to do either of those given the buyout window is closed for the Canucks. For calgary i believe they will have another one since they have players whom have selected arbitration, but they wouldn’t buyout Lucic without trying him for a year first. I have already stated the difference per year if these 2 were actually bought out next summer

This a fun thread to read.

Not many non Canuck fans put much value into him
Virtually none Canucks fans do either. Its just the few that do think he has value are trying to yell loud in this thread

It's just that the more complexity you add to a trade proposal, the less likely it is. So if Ladd goes to Vancouver, would the Isles so much prefer Ryan over Eriksson? If they would, then for sure, a three team trade might be the best, but I don't see why they'd prefer Ryan so much.

Does anyone even know if Ladd will play next season? He’s had some nagging lower body injuries with his most recent torn ACL occurring on his good side. I half wonder if he’ll be LTIR.

I also feel like the Isles may get more use out of Ryan as he was the most productive(offensively) of the three players last season. Not that it’s a high bar.

He basically floats around the ice with no grit whatsoever. He appears to have totally lost his hands which is the odd part. He kinda just sits their and does nothing. With the Bruins and Stars at least he showed some effort and was a decent two way player. He cant even play one way now.

His agent is apparently back peddling, saying the quotes were being blown up out of context. Sure. More like Tampa and San Jose and other teams looking to compete have less than 0 interest, but yeah, he will be happy here now.
