i think hes still a good enough guy to haver on ur 3rd line
I don't think so.
Although the 4rth line is the new 3rd line in today's NHL.

I don't think he should be a mainstay by any means, but even in Anaheim he'd get shifts with Perry in the playoffs to give a different look. He can be the crash and bang guy here and there.
He offered very little on the ice and now that he’s off the ice we don’t miss him. At all. The management identified this guy as a must have signing.
Dido is better.
Dido does entirely different things, is responsible for entirely different things, and plays an entirely different position than Thompson.
Bad comparison is bad.
signing. WOuld do that every day.
Heck even McCormick has more hustle, gumption and crash-bang than Thompson.
Yes. I would. Cheap contract for a reliable 4th liner and PKerOf course you would.
I never thought I would say this, but I kind of agree. If Max can reel in the stupidity he is known for in the AHL, he could be an effective 4th liner here for sure. Too bad we already a lot of useless players with NMC and an extra year on their contracts. Hopefully we can unload a couple, Thompson included and make room for some new blood.
People overcomplicate these things too much.
One is a better hockey player, who drives possession better and is an actual threat to score from the bottom 6.
You need players who can make plays up and down the line up.
If you can't understand the very basic idea that a "toolsy" offensive depth winger and a defensive shutdown center have two completely different roles that require two completely different skillsets, then you have no businesses telling others that their analysis is wrong.
I would rather have a centre who can put the puck in the net that is responsible defensively.

Oh really? You're telling me all we need is centers who can score AND defend well? Oh shoot, it's so easy! WHY DIDN'T ANYONE ELSE THINK OF THAT BEFORE. I think you just broke the system with that groundbreaking idea! Hockey will never be the same! We are entering a new age of hockey strategy!!!
I mean, s**t, son, let's just all go down to the god damned DOLLARAMA and pick us up some CENTERS WHO CAN SCORE AND DEFEND WELL. Should cost us what, ten bucks?
Oh wait... I know why we can't do that!
1) those players all cost $4-6mil/year minimum on contracts with decent term, unless you draft them, in which case they still cost that much after their ELCs are up because the bridge contract is dead, and
2) there aren't enough of those players to meet league demand, hence the $ and term they command.
... centers who can score and defend well. Jeez. Like, of ****ing course teams want those players. 31 NHL teams want players like that. Are we even on a message board about hockey? You know what else is good? Skates and hockey sticks. Those are also useful in winning hockey games.
Thompson was a great signing. WOuld do that every day.

The second goal against the other night against Nashville (I think it was the 2nd one) is part of why Dido hasn't made himself a mainstay NHL'r yet. He's fine in 2 thirds of the ice, but in his own end he really doesn't bring much at all, and can be a complete hindrance. I like him, but skill sets need to match roles, and you can't have a team of Dido's and be successful. There's a reason the great Detroit teams had guys like Draper and McCarty on them. Pre-Cap days, they could go out and buy themselves skilled guys if they wanted, but knew that some grinders would give Bowman the soldiers he needed for specific tasks.
Thank you for your incredible hockey knowledge
Point is, the game is evolving, 3rd and 4th lines around the league are getting younger and faster. No need to overpay for vets.
