if mr. paul keeps it going and chiasson keeps looking good dallas might start regretting the trade in a couple years. not to mention the player we get with the 2nd round pick. not sure about guptill, but no pressure. the trade is probably good without him.

I don't think so. They have a number of good young wingers and there just wasn't really room for Chiasson and Paul could fall victim to the same treatment. Hard to play those guys over the likes of Ritchie and Nichuskin. Chiasson wouldn't help them much from the 4th line again. They need a good 2nd line C much worse. If Spezza re signs, no way they regret that. They went from being a playoff threat to only being one piece away from legit contender status. Jim Nill knows what he's doing.

Yeah, sometimes both teams get what they want.

Spezzas greatest worth is as an accessory star player. Not as a star player. The more accessory you can make him, the better. He might be stars third best offensive forward.

Didn't see it posted yet, but Harpur hurt his knee on Friday.

"Ben Harpur left with what appeared to be a knee injury after a clean collision with the IceDogs Aleksander Mikulovich. Team would only say "lower body injury" after the game as the seriousness of Harpur's injury was still being assessed."

"Ben Harpur will have his injured knee seen by a specialist on Tuesday. More about the seriousness -- or lack thereof -- of the injury will be known then.

I have no additional information and I'm no doctor (I don't even play one on TV), but it is common that joint injuries often need to have the swelling go down before they can be properly assessed. Perhaps that's what is happening here."

"Ben Harpur was at the rink on crutches. Said they are waiting for the swelling to go down before assessing his injured knee on Tuesday."

Let's put it this way, the trade looked horrible at first, not even getting a first rounder, prospects we didn't know about and a rookie who had a sensational start but didn't keep up for the rest of the season.

Nick Paul's stock has risen a whole lot since the trade. This makes the trade look a lot better now than it looked 2 months ago. Guptill will probably never play in the NHL but if Paul can continue his devellopement like he's doing, we should have a fine prospect coming to camp next year. I really like Chiasson and now with Paul, it eases the pain a little bit..

Spezza now has 7 point in 5 games, thanks to a 4 point night. He's still a -2..

I kind of have a vague awareness of this Nick Paul character but can someone break down the type of player he is? Whats his top end potential?

Sounds like he's off to a good start and its a good sign he's on Team Canada's radar

Paul reminds me a lot of Stone. Not as skilled offensively but they play a similar game.

Not very similar, whatsoever.

Stone was a play-making winger with Size, who had to overcome skating deficiencies.

Paul is a rugged, Defensive forward with size who over the last 10 months has show great offensive ability and great skating. He can play all 3 forward positions, but the Sens seem to like him at Center. He is not a playmaker, but a North-South scorer.

Yeah, this. Also Paul seems like he will translate to the bottom 6, at least initially. Only similarity with Stone that I can see is how they score goals (and I guess size), although I've barely seen any of Paul and theres a huge difference between Jr. and Pro. That said, Paul seems to like the front of the net just like Stone does.

I've seen a few North Bay games over the past two years and I really liked Paul last season. Not comparing Paul to Stone while Stone was playing in the WHL, but Paul is very comparable to the NHL Mark Stone. Good defensively, has size, not the best skater but gets where he needs to go, and goes to the front of the net. Paul doesn't have the same puck skills or vision though that Stone has.

Harpur update: Mike Kelly says Ben Harpur expected to be out weeks, not months. An MRI still to be done, but initial news from specialist was favourable.

Nick Paul's stock rising in front of the watchful fans eye over the summer is a result of his stock rising in front of scouts eyes over the second half of last season. Not sure if you realize that but his stock had risen a lot before th trade, which is why he was dealt for a high end center.

Regardless of how a trade ends up is always comical to watch fans react to trades involving players they've never heard of. Newsflash, you don't scout the game full time, there are tons of strong prospects you've never heard and likewise many players in the NHL you have no read on.

Everyone complained about Turris deal.

Is he a "great skater"? From what I saw in the summer he looked okay, especially for his size, but I'd be hard pressed to call him a great skater.
