Somewhat off topic, but does anyone know what they will be doing with Rexall? I really want them to put up for auction some sick pieces from the arena
So around 134 days to completion of arena? looks like a lot of finishing work before that takes place. In a building that is tech heavy that's likely to involve a lot.
What I can visualize is a bare bones arena with a lot of tech issues still not resolved and opened a month or more later than the September 2nd date.
Also, this can be one of the most frustrating construction times as sub trades are basically on top of each other trying to keep their work on track. With Sups all over the place looking at everything.
Am I being picky if I still find the cost reductions on the community rink disappointing? I thought I'd get over it, but staring at the sky view live camera.... There are going to be a lot of aerial shots and a lot of skyscrapers nearby looking down... the new stylized form factor rink is directly attached to an ugly square with HVAC and other equipment jammed on its flat roof. And the internals not having that sleek wood finish will make it feel out of place too.
It cheapens the look of the complex significantly, to me. Oh well.
How much extra could it cost for rounded corners and a little veneer?
I've gotten over the brushed steel-for-zinc replacement, btw.
Sir, you are quite right and correct - the community rink should be behind that structure, right?
Still, it looks ugly -- and while it is definitely a square in the renders, It looks like it fits in better in the renders. I don't know whether that is due to lack of HVAC fixtures, coloration, gap space, texture.. whatever it is - Its hurtin' my eyes.

LOL - you're not used to new construction are you? That's normal. More than normal. If you only want one sub trade in at a time, add 18 months to any construction. This is normal. GWL field in Wpg was delayed a whole year, luckily for the Bombers they hadn't blown up the old Wpg Stadium yet. Absolute worse case scenario is the Northlands charges a Kings ransom (whatever that works out to be) for the Oilers and Oil Kings to play at Rexall but doubt that will happen. The delay in the Stadium in Wpg was due to shoddy concrete (funny, same thing happened when the they added the upper decks in the old arena when the Jets first joined the NHL - go figure )
http://skyrisecities.com/news/2016/04/photos-capture-stantec-towers-11-hour-raft-slab-pour- Raft sits on 39 piles, 1.8m in diameter, deepest of which runs 80m into the ground (a separate source indicates that these may be the deepest ever used in an office tower in North America)
- Typically raft slabs act as one big footing and bear directly on the soil, but because of the height and loading of this tower, piles were also needed
- 760 tonnes of rebar was used for the raft slab
- 2800 cubic metres of concrete was used
- Raft Dimensions are 24m wide x 36m long x 3m tall
- Pour start time 5am, end time 3pm - roughly 10 hours
- About 311 concrete trucks were needed
- Pour rate was ~300m3/hr; ~33 trucks every hour
The contract says it has to be finished by Sept. 2.
Honestly given the state of the economy I think it's quite clear that if you can't handle the pressure of all the guys then leave and we'll take one of the other thousands of guys that are dying for a job.hAha you caught that hey. I've been out of Construction for a long long time. Used to work in masonry so the less subtrades and sups around stalling things the better.
I think we drew up a linear correlation between X amount of superintendents around and pointless tear downs. Add some more drafts people and architects and its "oh we changed this spec again" Oh well, gotta love cost plus.
ps the other day I was bored and noticed on the arena interior cam that somebody parked a scissor lift length wise across the corridor causing a needless bottleneck with people walking around it all day and jamming other pallets and equipment from getting through. You think somebody would move it? It wasn't used all day, thousand times people moving by there. Little stuff like that drove us nuts on construction sites. Move it or lose it. Its like old absent minded ladies in a superstore parking their cart sideways.

I think it's also safe to assume that a lot of the people working on this site are use to multiple trades guys on a site at a time as there has been a lot of pressure the past decade or so to get buildings done quick.
Finished or useable?
Not sure. I was told finished but it may mean useable.
Looks like it will be a tight fit for next season. Is there a back up plan if the arena is not ready in time for next season
I have a friend who's working there and PCL has daily and weekly deadlines to meet
this will get done on time
