Why didn't they sign him last year and bring him in for this season? He is 18 already, they brought in Poehling at 17. I don't know his academic standing but would think he's got enough credits to enroll. Cholowski went one year and then left for the CHL, why does a player get a pass when they do that but not if they decommit?
Poehling accelerated his academics to join his brothers. Guttman wasn't brought in because he's only had the one junior year and we usually like our guys to have 2 under their belts. All situations are different.
As for Cholowski...he signed a pro deal...nothing we can do about that.

So you do a favor for one guy but not the other yet get made if they go elsewhere. If you wanted him so bad bring him in before he has a chance to jump ship. That's on you guys, not Guttman.

If that's how you want to spin it fine.

It's not a spin. Cholowski and Poehling each went last year before playing 2 years of junior like you want. Sure they were 1st round picks but you run the risk of alienating another commit that way who may have wanted to sign last year. You can't have it both ways.

Yeah actually schools can. If he was so desperate to come in this year...he could have decommitted and gone to DU this year. He didnt. So either way he still isnt a freshman until next season so your point is moot.
Also as you said...Poehling and Cholowski were 1st round picks...Guttman had one break out season and was a 6th rounder...god forbid teams treat guys differently based on draft status.
You seem to want to absolve Guttman of any wrong doing here and it's just not possible. He had plenty of time to open his recruitment back up if he was so unhappy...but instead he waited till the 11th hour and bailed without warning.
If you can't see why that's a problem then nothing I say will convince you.

Crunch drop today's game to the Marlies 2-1 with all goals scored on power plays. One goal does not get Erne out of the fan's doghouse. Heck, at this rate, he should end up with 5 or 6 for the year.

Its late November and the Syracuse Crunch:

- team still doesn't know their defensive assignments.
- have no chemistry in building through the neutral zone.
- all three forwards are way too deep in the offensive zone.
- are hugely undisciplined.
- doesn't have a PP QB.
- the free agent acquisitions of: Bodie, McNeil, and McBain are a HUGE dissappointment, all three are bad defenseman. Our defensive prospects have to shelter THEM instead of the other way around.

Groulx is failing here ... no progress has been made. The kids by now should have adjusted and the team lines have zero chemistry in all three zones.

The organization should assign Dumont back to bring some leadership and stability to the top 6 Center position. After a great camp ... Peca is just not playing well. Erne and Peca specially should be growing and dominating at this level if they want to get a shot at the NHL. No prospect has taken the next step in their development and for some it is just as simple as adjusting to the physicality and speed of the game: Volkov.

Groulx won't make it through the season if this keeps up. At the very least the team should be prepared and know their assignments. Its been awful hockey and its probably one of the worst teams that I've watched Syracuse field. Talent wise they should be far, far, far away better than what they are showing on the ice.

The only "out" that I can see as an excuse is the lack of playmakers on the team. Its a team full of aggressive forecheckers and backcheckers with speed. The only real "playmaker" or skill player at this level being Conacher. Its like they are all auditioning for the same NHL role ... third liner. There was no acquisition of "small skill" like we've done in the past with Gourde and Marchessault as examples. We are running one scoring line, two third lines, and an ineffective 4th line. Plenty of blame to go around ... at the end this team should not be this bad. I blame Groulx and to a lesser extent Brisbois by failing to fill the gaps.

Is Sosunov good ... well Dotchin is playing first pairing on the NHL's best team. So who knows where he'll end up...being a giant on the North American small ice will help him, a lot. We'll know more mid-way through next year when he is in Syracuse.

Werewolf, thank you for you first quarter write up. I agree 100% with your write up and could not have done a better job myself. It is unfortunate that some on this site do not see the AHL level the same way. We will have to continue to report like we see it, and let the rest of the season play however it does.

Cirelli has ten points in 16 games, surely there's something positive with that development?

It’s not that the rookies are terribly underperforming, it’s that the vets brought in (who are supposed to help with their development) look bad. The vets who were the backbone of last year’s team are either injured (Condra), traded (McGinn), not re-signed (Taormina), or sitting in the press box in Tampa (Dumont). What is most disconcerting is that the team looks poorly coached. Tampa in the Yzerman era has done a great job of drafting AND development. If this coach can’t develop young players, Syracuse is in trouble because there are 6 plus more rookies coming in next year. And a cap team like Tampa will need a steady flow of players who can fill out the lineup while they are still on their ELCs. Development of rookies is critical for both teams.

Best Crunch game I have seen this year. They showed a lot of heart in the comebacks and Yan was a horse with the OT move. We will see if they can keep the momentum Friday agains the Penguins.
