Having Grabner on the PK almost makes me excited when we go to the box, I was always terrified of D to D passes when he was lurking. Such an active stick in passing lanes too.

Patrick's speech was certainly the best (and longest) retirement speech I've ever seen. Doing the rest of the tribute completely on video on the jumbotron set that up. He was the only orator, as it were. And with that spotlight, he nailed the OT goal. Pure Patrick. What a guy.

In a day when sports heroes are so often spoiled brats, Elias is a throwback to Lou Gehrig. Only Patrick got over his Hepatitis, and his speech was a lot longer.

Great night. My only gripe is that "fans" come out of the woodwork to attend. People around me were unbearable.

Lady behind me had a voice that sounded like Elmo from Sesame Street screaming (really), and was giving a mock "boo hoo" every time patty started tearing up, but WAS wearing a Devils Jersey. My friend said she was at the point of spinning around and smacking the crap out of her. I just don't get it.

Teen-looking kids next to me just whining "oh c'mon, why don't you just score" just about every time we took a shot. Just awful.

the missed calls were absurd. i absolutely flipped shit in my seat complete with unfiltered swearing after the second of the back-to-back missed calls, as did my 67-year-old father who i got acting like that at sporting events from, lol. i knew it was bad because he usually only gets like that at yankees games.

many of the fans sitting around me were regulars, and some i haven’t seen all season. just the way it goes on nights like this. still, the place was awesome last night, especially on our goals.

Little surprised the Isles didn't come out for the ceremony, particularly because Gomez is on their staff too. Pretty sure each other team we faced came out on a retirement night did so (exception might be the Bruins when Daneyko's # was retired).

Very well done, enjoyable ceremony especially Patty's speech. There isn't anything we don't know or further that needs to be said about Patty, but he is an all around gem. Felt like the final chapter has been closed from that 1990-2012 run that was one of the most consistent any sports organization has ever had. To have 5 guys like that during that stretch isn't something you see often either and as we know, we were very spoiled to have had them.

The reffing in the third really was a mess. The right man was in the building and needed to throw a bench on the ice.

Legit thought the crowd was going to riot for a second. Man they were pissed.

Hall telling the ref to **** off on that bogus icing was hilarious. Ref got snippy saying “don’t you shake your head at me”.

Did the ref really say that? What a f'n ass.

If I was Hall, I would've continued to shake my head just to spite that piece of crap.

I get that it's a little tougher vis-a-vis the Isles team when you're in direct competition for a playoff spot with the team you're playing on a retirement jersey night, as opposed to being just a random team like the Oilers on Marty night or a bad Bruins team on Dano night. I think they wanted to just go business as usual. I did think Gomez himself should have been out there though having played with Patty.

This reminds me of the little shit, who only after getting to his seat during Brodeur’s jersey retirement, pulled off his hoodie and exposed the lundqvist jersey that he was wearing. And he was a **** too, making snarky comments to the fool who wasn’t embarrassed enough to sit next to him. Totally ruined the entire experience for me having to sit behind this asshole. These types of events really seem to bring in the most annoying crowds.

Lady wasn't a fan. She just wore the Jersey so she can pass off as one. I bet she's a Rags or Isles fan.

The teens next to you never watched a game of hockey in their lives if that's the attitude they have. I think they'd be better off going back to watching NBA basketball where 100 points scored in a game is a normal occurrence.

Not to get off topic, but the most aggravating I've had was game 7 in the finals against the Ducks. Seats next to me were empty for the first period. Some 20-ish, smug looking guy in a suit sits down at the beginning of the 2nd and at some point pulls out his cell phone. I overhear him saying "You know where I am? I'm at a hockey game". He's gone by 3rd period.

All I have to say is :

Thank you, Palms.

Thank you for getting those two goals and making sure I'm NOT pissed off. :D

Thank you for making sure that Patty night ends on such a high note.

Thank you for making fun of Zajac's public speaking.

But most of all....

THANK YOU FOR BEING A NEW JERSEY DEVIL TONIGHT! :yo::yo::yo::yo::yo::yo:

The post above deserved more likes than just one. :eviltongu

The booing when they missed those calls on the PK break was almost Philly level rage. I would NEVER think we'd have so much pent up anti-Refs anger as we do this year but it's really a powderkeg at this point. Those New Jersey Devils vs. Everyone shirts couldn't be more on point.

He's got 1 short handed goal this season? 3 in the last 4 years... Gibbons has 3 this year in 45 games.
