That trade literally set up our team for almost a decade.
That trade spoiled me as a kid. I ended up assuming you could just keep being good forever by making trades like that and when Spezza's time to go came up we could just do it again.

I have no inside information, but I'd be shocked if he wasn't asked. Assuming that, I can only guess that he turned down the opportunity because the optics would indicate he's like everyone else on that roster – retired. Rolling my eyes at Donovan and Robitaille, and sad no Kovalev...that would have made the whole event.
