Awesome. So your solution is to trade $8M Nylander for $8M Weber?Enjoy the 9M marner and 8M nylander with a 12M matthews then. You won't fit those 3 next year
Did you ever math?

Here, i will give you an honest plan....trade for Tanev.
Rielly-Tanev
Gardiner-Hainsey
Dermott-Zaitsev
Now, is Weber better than Tanev? Sure...but is that D+ Nylander a better team than a D with Weber minus Nylander? Yes, the difference between what Tanev will do and what Weber will do is not Nylander.
the leafs can improve their blueline by not trading any of marner or nylander. they can get top-4 dmen in free agency
this will not end well
I did...1st post in. Then the OP wanted to tell me why i was wrong....so i replied. I'm not knocking Weber, just that trading Nylander for him is a bad move.
you guys just need a healthy carey price to make the playoffs. the leafs can sign defenders from free agency to help their blueline. what part of that do you not understand?Habs can improve our team and we make the playoffs next year. What does this mean? a 1st round exit and cup pretenders.
You're wondering about it?Yep. Have to wonder if that's not known before the post is created ......
if weber doesn't bring us a cup why would we trade nylander for him then?I don't think it's a bad move. I just think it's not the move you need to make at this point. Weber don't bring you a cup. You have a few holes on the back end if you ask me.
On Montreal, ya.
they would rather pay those figures for the big 3 than allocate any of that cap for weber at nearly 8 million. those numbers are quite off as well
In all fairness, a Habs fan made the thread....and given what the Habs paid to acquire Weber, i get why he would ask for Nylander. Problem here is Weber doesn't hold that value to fans of other teams (not just Leafs). I would love Weber on the Leafs, i think he retires in 4 years so the contract really isn't an issue. But the offer i would make would insult Habs fans because it would be picks/futures based and i wouldn't move Liljegren. Now, before folks go off the rails about that, it's because as the OP said, we have big contracts coming up and will need those young ELC players to balance out the cap....and Liljegren is our best D prospect.Yep. Have to wonder if that's not known before the post is created ......

if weber was 29-30, the habs would say no to this deal. i believe some leafs would say yesI can see both sides of that coin, but the contract itself shouldn't be the deterrent.
If the Leafs management thought that a shutdown defender, with great net presence, the ability to cover a lack of foot speed in most cases with a very effective stick and quick thinking, along with the points, is enough to put them over I can see the situation where they might. It's not like a 30 something player with pedigree hasn't been traded for a young, all be it established young player hasn't happened before. Nylander represents something the Leafs have a lot of - skilled, fast, forwards. Weber represents something the Leafs don't have a lot of - reliable shut down defenders with a mean streak who will help the PK, be a weapon on the PP, and help play in their own end.
I can also see where the deal is far more plausible if Weber is 29-30 instead.

Here's why I won't do it.Name 30 defenceman who are realistically better then him right now. Heck, if you can name 15 who are better “right now”, I’d be very impressed.
Trying to think...Weber for Nylander >> Mete for Martin
You got another one?
Hes still a #1 Dman, But where hes at in his career hes making too much money and his numbers are starting to decline. Cant trade a 22 year old Forward for that. Babcock can love him all he wants this trade still wouldnt happen.Weber is a #1D. You don't have to like the trade offer but trolling Weber's value is something that will have back lash.
Right now? Weber is coming off serious ankle surgery and not sure if he will be ready for camp, there are probably more than 15 guys better "right now".Name 30 defenceman who are realistically better then him right now. Heck, if you can name 15 who are better “right now”, I’d be very impressed.
it was orlov, niskanen and carlson, not just orlovActually, Orlov carried the blue linw in the stanley cup final ( if u watches the game) Carlson will get a ridiculous contract this summer and hes not on Weber level.
