weber isn't a 1D, will be declining, and has a humongous contract. all of our cap isn't going to be spent on the 1st two lines because the figures you mentioned are high. also, nylander isn't going to "definitely be traded before next year", and if he was, i highly doubt it is for weber

Weber is not a #1 D ? the guy carried Team canada defense, still has great years to come. The guy is a warrior and prob the best mentor in the league for your immature blue line. I think he would be the perfect fit.

tell me Letang salary again. oh and the year he signed it is comparable to a 9M in 2018.
Tell me the "big dollar Dman" on the Caps.....then tell me how much money they habe wrapped up in their top 2 forward lines....then tell me how they won the cup.

Because Carlson signed a long term contract years ago and he wasn't that good ? look at is 8.5M he will get this summer with the caps.
And maybe....just maybe, the Leafs will go the same route (develop and sign young D) all while keeping 22 year old Nylander.

Tell us how the Leafs are going to win a cup with a similar D like the Caps on the back end? As a Habs fan, I actually hope you don't make any moves on D and try to insert young guys. You will get roasted and lose in the 1st round year after year.

no weber is not a number 1 D. he carried team canada's defense in 2014. its been 4 years since then bud. times have changed. also, international tournaments don't carry as much value in the nhl than actual nhl play. he's past his prime and is probably on the decline. weber wouldn't be a perfect it on the blueline because he's a lot older than our core. add on his huge contract and thats a definitive no from toronto.

33 is not yet a decline for a defensive D.. hell Markov played well and he was 38
Ok, wow great

So ur telling me he’s not going to get any worse for the next 5 years?

Also that doesn’t even matter, as the leafs core should continue to get better over the next 10 years and that includes Nylander

Only way he moves is got a similarly aged RHD

Irrelevant. You are arguing that you need to spend big dollars on a #1D and the current Cup champs won the cup without doing that. What he gets paid next year is 100% irrelevant.

Here, i will give you an honest plan....trade for Tanev.
Rielly-Tanev
Gardiner-Hainsey
Dermott-Zaitsev

Now, is Weber better than Tanev? Sure...but is that D+ Nylander a better team than a D with Weber minus Nylander? Yes, the difference between what Tanev will do and what Weber will do is not Nylander.

the leafs can improve their blueline by not trading any of marner or nylander. they can get top-4 dmen in free agency

Just say no. Weber is a #1D. The Age gap is a issue for the Leafs for sure. No need to troll each other
I did...1st post in. Then the OP wanted to tell me why i was wrong....so i replied. I'm not knocking Weber, just that trading Nylander for him is a bad move.
