how did that work out for the habs
The Blackhawks still did the same thing Habs fans were hoping for, proving once again that this lottery system is a sham.

Notice the time stamp. This was legitimately leaked about 30 mins before the tv air time. As a Sabres fan I didn’t want to believe it at the time, but it was 100% accurate.
Someone screwed up big time...
Btw, sorry if this was already posted.
Hawks had 250% better odds at a top 3 pick than the HabsThe Blackhawks still did the same thing Habs fans were hoping for, proving once again that this lottery system is a sham.
This obviously means:
1) The drawing was obviously held BEFORE the broadcast
2) SportsNet was told of the results before the live announcement
3) SportsNet set up graphics before the live announcement and had them queue'd up
My takeaways from this debacle is:
1) Why don't they show the actual drawing to the audience? That would be way more interesting
2) Why did the NHL tell the network ahead of time, how stupid is that
3) How banana republic is SportsNet that they can't punch up the logo as it's happening?
An international network may have broadcast an off-air moment, but that still doesn't excuse the NHL for telling SportsNet ahead of time and for SportsNet to have the three logos q'd up like a bunch of amateur high school AV students.I think it happened on Finnish TV.
Right. Because the New Jersey Devils are an NHL cornerstone. Please.
Well they were taken 3/4, it's not like they were off the board lol
What other way would you have to stop tanking?I still don't understand why the league makes all top 3 picks a lottery, if the Avs legitimately sucked they could have lost the top overall pick in two of three drafts. And if the lottery was the old way, they could have potentially added Hischier over Makar and Hughes over Byram. So why not just give the worst team the best odds, it's not like it infinitely improves their odds. Or why not move the lottery to tiers (1-5, 6-10, etc)? If anything, there should just be a forced exclusion for multiple 1sts in a block of years, not lottery balls the whole time.
What a terrible outcome for NYI.
He's got talent for sure. I liked Kakko better, but he probably fit in with the Avs better than he would in New Jersey. Hughes size worries me, but if he can be dynamic enough to not get crushed every game, he should be a good 1c in a few years.
Neither one of them was a clear top talent. It was a weak draft at the top.
I mean the Avs went from 1st to 4th after a 48 point season, and it was a blessing in disguise.
What other way would you have to stop tanking?
The system seems to work well enough, it should probably even be worse odds for the top 3 like the NBA. It's not perfect but if you have any better ideas then please go ahead and share with us
I wasn't talking about Hughes or Kakko. Try to contain yourselfOh please.
You got Barzal going all-BEAST-MODE right now and for the foreseeable future.
Don't you start Woe-is-me'ing now.
Isn't Johnny Hockey as tall as Hughes, though?
And Jack did say that his goal right now is to put on some size 'cause he sees how big and strong the league is with all the players.
Hughes and Kakko are not a Clear Top Talent?
Bet you wouldn't be saying this if you won the #1 pick or got to pick #2.
Don’t you mean 5 years from now?you know it's hilarious because 50 years from now we could be celebrating our like sixth or seventh cup (hypothetically) and this would still be a punchline.
Rangers deserved some luck after picking garbage player lias andersson at 7th.
