This exactly. People are arguing "But McDavid is better than Gaudreau!!!" Yeah no doubt everyone knows that. But he's about to be paid nearly TWICE as much. Connor is going to make 20% more than the next highest paid guys in the game. Being 10th in scoring (with nearly everyone ahead of him having games in hand) is unacceptable for someone with the most lucrative contract in the game's history.

Connor is making about a million bucks before bonuses this year.

Also people will argue that the cap hit will change over time and all that. McDavid's contract "might" be well priced one day. For one we don't know that, and two why are we paying for future performances when most other contracts (i.e. Gaureau, Monahan, Tavares) pay for their recent level of production.

It's a gamble and a pretty reasonable one at that. What else are they supposed to do with a 20 year old coming off an Art Ross and Hart-winning season? Bridge him? LMAO.

^ Huh??

I think maybe some people just aren't fans of his upcoming $12.5 million x 8 contract based on one great season.

What was wrong with his rookie season?
What's wrong with his play this season? You know, the one where he basically had the plague for 6 weeks of it?

Just stop. McDavid = Oilers franchise, and vice versa. This is just silly, even as a non-serious discussion. McJesus goes nowhere. This isn't a Lindros, this is a Crosby or a McDavid.

Yeah, but if you remove his first season and his current season, and you assume the second season was some kind of fluke, what exactly has McDavid done in the NHL?

Nothing, that's what.

Some might say that being first in points per game over the 2.5 year span that McDavid's been in the league might be enough, but those people are just looking at the facts and forgetting about all the doubts that this guy has raised with his play.

There are probably 15 other guys leading the league in ppg over that 2.5 year span, and doing it cheaper.

Jesus Christ. This thread is ridiculous and should not have 3 pages.

If you're not a fan of McDavid, you should probably pick another team to cheer for. Simple as that. He's the current face of the franchise and will be for a long time. He's not going away, so don't bother torturing yourself.

The Golden Knights are kinda fun...

Before everyone gets up in arms, I am not advocating trading Connor and it would gut me as much as trading Wayne and Smythy did.

There's been more and more unsettling discussion on here, talking to friends and on CHED about the prospect of trading McDavid being our only card to play to actually turn this franchise around without it taking 4 years of slow rebuild. It brings me to think what teams would have to give up to make this happen? It would take a complete gutting of good players, prospects and picks and they'd have to have room for the $12.5 on top of that. I honestly don't think there is a team out there with the depth or cap space to make this happen, which means we are safe from losing him.

Is Connor tradeable? If so, for curiosity sake can you list what you think it would take?

he is trending to be an all time great and guys like that care a lot about their own legacy.

He should have considered his legacy before this past summer. Instead, he decided not to give his team a friendly deal that would enable them to add pieces. Draisaitl followed McGreedys lead and together, they sucked any chance of ever winning a cup out of Edmonton.

Balance is how you build a winner.
Edmonton and Montreal is how not to.

ya, though I know his "market value" was at least that (12.5 mil), he really should have considered more about the leaving more for Chia to work with. maybe he got cocky and really thought he could carry any kind of team to he cup (partly because of what happened last year). A little bit naïve fool-heartiness maybe. not saying he cannot for sure win the cup here but it may be more difficult now and we have to hope the cap rises by a fair amount and quickly.

Did you miss the year where he won 3 awards?

You're a real downer buddy. Have some fun with it...be creative

Nobody can take you seriously when all your posts have been nothing BUT anti-Oilers. Your history backs it up.

If you're gonna troll, go cheer for the Flames or Nucks since you allegedly live in Vancouver anyway.
