Remember Ericson was given most of the PP time and Backes receives little to none.

When Eriksson was given it, he grabbed it and produced unlike the other one who did not. I assumed at least he would be the number one or two PK guy given his status in the Selke talks, yet that has not happened very much either. Mildly disappointed we did not grab a Dee for that price tag at the time and it bugs me even more with the return to date and going forward the next few years. So far I see Moore but we paid more.

Added for a non physical player Eriksson took more physical abuse in front of the net then any other Bruin I have seen in the last 5 years and then turned and put it in the net, he did so along the boards too. We miss that on the PP bigtime, no net presence, we do a bumper tactic basically and failed one timers.

Beleskey was a case of gambling on the one season and it turned out a lost cause, shame you win some and lose some. Maybe he gets his game back but I see him in a trade or walking for free, just does not have the wheels anymore, that was basically his game.

Beleskey: ‘I’m just looking to play hockey’

PROVIDENCE
— Two days after playing his first game for the Providence Bruins, Matt Beleskey got his first practice under his belt on Monday at Providence College’s Schneider Arena. Beleskey, 29, continues to take a optimistic approach as he looks to get his game on track after playing 14 scoreless games in Boston and not dressing for 15 others.

“I’m just looking to play hockey, get an opportunity to get back out on the ice. It’s no fun sitting in the stands, especially doing it for an extended period of time. I’m trying to get back to where I want to be. Hopefully, they’ll want me contributing up in Boston if I’m playing the way I’m capable,” he said.

P-Bruins coach Jay Leach is glad to have Beleskey, who played an estimated 14-to-15 minutes with two shots on net while skating alongside Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson and Chris Porter in Hershey on Saturday night.

I disagree with everything you say about Loui but I agree completely they need a forward to go to the slot and screen on the power play, but the way the team has been assembled they don't have that type of player. Backes will go to the net and did a good job last night but besides needing a tough physical presence they need a player who will drive to the net and screen, look for tips and create some havoc.

When all you draft is speed and skill, the same type of player without creating a balanced team, you create holes that become very obvious as time goes on.

You ignoring one important fact.

The 1st PP unit isn't set up to use a pure net-front presence. It's not part of the strategy that unit is going for. The guy down low (typically Marchand) hangs off to the side, will wander into the net front when the puck gets put in there, but they simply aren't using that tactic. They didn't use it when Eriksson was there either, he hung off to the side as well and move in when it was appropriate.

With Bergeron in the bumper position in the middle, unless the league is going to allow them 6 skaters on the ice, they don't have enough bodies to use a guy to stand in front of the net the entire time that unit is on the ice on the PP.

So they only need one net-front guy on the PP, on the 2nd unit, and that's Backes. So they are fine in that regard, no "holes" at all as you are stating.

Nice article on Matt and a good response. I really do hope he gets back on track down there and is able to come back up and contribute- failing that, at least be good enough to generate some trade interest.

You've stated this now multiple times in different threads and it's simply not backed up by any available metric. Last year without Eriksson? 7th ranked power play in the entire NHL. This year without Eriksson? 7th ranked power play in the entire NHL (despite a record number of injuries to key power play guys).

This isn't the problem you are making it out to be. Their power play is not "missing" Eriksson right now. In fact, it has done nothing but improve since he left. The numbers in this case simply don't lie.

That's also Backes' bread and butter spot. He's as good as Eriksson there. Sets screens, battles for position, gets his stick on pucks.

I expect Backes to be that guy and maybe he will but it seems the youth are better then the vets on the PP. We tend to ignore how productive Eriksson was his last year here - 10 power play goals and 2 PK goals, no one to date has been as good as him getting results. I forgot how much hate ppl have for Eriksson but those METRICS, lol. His numbers in this case simply don't lie.

LOL. Pasta had 10 PPGs last year and is on pace for 13 this year.

You REALLY need to learn to fact-check your arguments before you just throw crap out there.

Lets get back to Beleskey and getting some value for that contract. He is going down to a low point in his career can he come back and be a player for us? Who knows it is all up to him and re-creating his style. I hope he can for the Bruins sake and that salary. I wish him luck, get a skating instructor, trainer and diet coach.

Ideal situation for all, Beleskey starts putting up numbers at a good pace in the AHL between now and the trade deadline.

Beleskey is either 1. Good enough to call up as a deadline "acquisition" 2. Has played well enough for another team to take a risk and to move him for virtually anything / nothing to another team looking for wing depth.

Or 3 Sweeney signs him to an extension.

4. Bruins recall him, he gets pickedby Montreal. Scoring 20 goals in 4 games vs boston, giving the Habs 8 points and 3rd in the atlantic.
Oh and Bels injures Pasta with a thunderous bodycheck.
All that while Boston pays half.

“I’m definitely trying to showcase myself,” said Beleskey. “In Boston since Bruce (Cassidy) came (in as coach), things just haven’t worked for me. If I’m not in their plans, hopefully they can put me in a position to succeed somewhere else. I’m just trying to work hard. And, hey, if they want me back in Boston, I’ll be ready to go. But it just doesn’t seem to be working that way.”

Beleskey would be fine at 4th line LW if something happens to Schaller, especially play-offs time. I don't think we've seen the last of him.

There is OBVIOUS dislike between player and coach however.

In nine games he'll be at the halfway point of his deal.

he will be the gift that keeps on giving after this season. Not quote Bobby Bonilla but aggravating nonetheless

He had plenty of opportunity to succeed in Boston, and he did not.
Now they are giving him an opportunity in Prov.
I think he would need to blow the doors off to get another chance in Boston, but if he is playing well, perhaps someone
takes a chance on him at the deadline. One can hope, which I think is the only one.

I could care less about the salary. As much as I like the Acciari/Kuraly/Schaller combo, if he could bring it on the 4th line every night he'd have a place on this team. He simply hasn't.

Maybe Cassidy and him do have a rift, and injuries do happen, but he has no one to blame but himself for showing up out of shape last season, and never really got it going.

Also, next year's buyouts.

Beleskey .967k
Hayes .867k
Seids 1.67m

It's like writing off bad debts in business LOL.

That Seids one sucks. Especially since he showed he can still play last year.

Granted, I'm glad the buyout led to Carlo getting to play fulltime, but I've got to imagine if he came back and played anywhere near the level he was at last year, the Bruins could've traded him if needed.
