Their decision had nothing to do with any of this.

There simply wasn't much room in Laval or Montreal and it made more sense to send him home rather than unnecessarily try and cram him into either of the NA teams. They felt comfortable with him continuing to develop as he has in a good league with top minutes in all situations while giving Mailloux the same opportunity in Laval. Kloten has been something of a s**t show this year so perhaps they may have reconsidered if they knew this but expectations were that he would continue developing in an environment that he was rapidly improving in last year.

It was also never implied that they originally had him pencilled in to either NA team and then changed their minds. He was always likely headed back home with the expectation of coming over at the end of the season or in the summer.

Still learning to be a pro...............part of the process. He is not the 1st kid this has happened to, and wont be the last.
Still something for the organization to watch for, and put the leaders on the team on notice that this kid needs some mentoring of sorts.

It was reported earlier in the season that he was often late to team meetings and the players ended up teaching him a lesson (cut his skates lace) and he stopped being late after that.

I doubt Houle or the Habs would have tolerated a player missing multiple practices. MSL doesn't even tolerate being late to them, ask Drouin.

Yeah, it's real hard to believe the organization would just let him off the leash like that, let alone the kid himself being dumb enough to risk undoing every positive that he's had in the last year for a night out in town. He might be a bit dumb but he's not THAT dumb.

Listening to Gorton on the Sick Podcast he said one thing about prospects that hit the nail on the head.
Kids have to be comfortable in their surroundings before they make the jump.
The very second Reinbacher expressed a wish to return to Switzerland in a public interview no less it was a done deal.
If he had a burning desire to play in Laval chances are they would have made it happen.

If Mailloux finishes the AHL regular season without injury, that 72 games will pretty much equal his entire regular season experience in the OHL (75 games). What he has done this year with so little development time is amazing. I really hope Laval can extend this by making the playoffs.

And maybe that's a reason tipping the scales to another season ( aside from call ups ) in Laval. If he is lights out good in preseason ok, but if he is the 6th or 7th D , then send him back down except for a few steaks here and there.

First 28 games of the season- 5 Goals, 11 Assists, -12

Since then (33 games)- 9 Goals, 16 Assists, +11

I bet he’s not even nearly as bad as a lot of kids out there. He happened to get caught. There’s a 100% chance that at least one player that we love is just as bad if not worse. He’s not dumb he was a child
