Brown was a 7th, all picks have value.

Sure they do, just not as much as a goalie with a silver medal from the IIHF WHC.

Why did the Leafs pass on waivers to get Pickard and give up prospects instead, in order to dump a contract? Otherwise doesn’t make sense.

Vegas must of thought Subban was better than Pickard as a backup, ortherwise would of kept him.

1. To dump a contract
2. So they could assign him directly to the Marlies

  • saw babcock interview, and also read that he said this; "we are better now because of it."(trade) "if someone wants and AHL goaltender we have that."
  • either way another move is coming

Mike Babcock seemed to hint at the Leafs moving one of the Marlies goalies following the trade for Calvin Pickard:

Lindberg was a victim of the numbers game, he had no chance of ever making the Leafs. The 6th rounder is pretty meh since Lou will be picking up more than that at TD most likely. The Leafs addressed an issue at price we can easily afford.

The Loss of these late round draft picks is inconsequential since this new management team can lure Europeans and college kids at will. Z, Rosen,Borgman etc. There are 3 NHL'ers right there without missing a beat. We will have Z's Dman friend signed in the spring. No worries over the loss of picks.
We are also in the position to sign FA like never before. Players want to be part of this resurgence.

We have a but ton of unsigned draft picks. You can have only so many unsigned players fill only what roster of 50 limit of contracts right around RFA and UFA. Alot of action happens at that time. I believe we lost, a few players this way just this past year. We have alot of hits with draft picks right now and we all know it.

Highlight would probably make anyone look like an all star but I think Pickard looks like a 1B goalie in the NHL...

His stats would suggest he had a solid first outing for the marlies. Anyone watch the game that can comment on him?

“It was definitely a shock for me, didn’t see that one coming. I thought I was going to be there,” Pickard said after practice this week. “It’s a big business and you can never control those things. I understand that and I’m definitely over it…I’m really excited to be a part of [this] and it’s nice to feel wanted here.”
“He’s come in with an incredible attitude, very positive,” said Marlies head coach Sheldon Keefe. “When you look at his predicament and how things have played out, it would be understandable if a guy showed up and needed some time to settle in and get to work, but he’s come in with a great attitude from the very first day.”
“I learned a lot of things about being able to have a short-term memory, to throw [games] away and get ready for the next one,” he said. “My primary focus right now is being the best goalie I can be for the Marlies [so] when I get that next opportunity at the NHL level, I’m ready for it. I know I can play at that level and I know I can excel there as well.”

Leafs need to find a way to bring him up. There might be a chance he is be better than Andersen. It would be good to create a goaltending competition right now.

It will be very odd if he stays down for long, he is a legitimate 1B goalie with a couple years of NHL experience.

Time to bring Pickard up and let him start. Give the team a chance at least.

Id wait until McelHinney loses, no need to rush, Pickard will get his chance after January to play games with the Leafs.

I've seen you blame Freddy in numerous places for tonights game, where is the blame on that unbelievably shitty coverage? How many odd man rushes are we going to give up, hanging our goaler out to dry?
