LOL! Didn't think it was that small but the picture is damn misleading!;)

Yeah, it's one of the biggest I've ever seen.
The picture is taken from the corner at the roof's height, which is the furthest of the jumbotron. It looks way smaller than it is really.

This is directed to the members who might be in the market for tickets in Quebec.

What if Quebecor told the NHL our ticket prices will be in USD and will be adjusted to the current rate at time of sale?

Would Quebec fans accept that?

You really want the federal govt. involved in municipal buildings?

It did help Winnipeg. Conservatives promised they would help finance the changes to surrounding roads/highways before the construction began and as of now we have no update, despite the fact that the area now needs big changes, expecially the exits of highway 73 (Laurentienne).

Regarding reported asked price: you can bet Qcor bought hundreds of millions US dollars long time ago for this transaction, probably sitting at Chase Manhattan or somewhere not far Central park.

Wanna bet? Their financial statements say they haven't done so.

They'll finance the purchase with US$ debt (most of their debt is in US$). The drop of the loonie hurts them a bit in terms of the purchase price, but it hurts them a lot more in terms of actual expected yearly profits (unless it comes back up again). None of that hurts them quite as much as a few years ago when the reported purchase price would have been around 200 million, but if they're still saying they're interested, that must mean they think the net loss on the hockey team might be worth it, given the benefits on the broadcasting side.

Quebec fans won't boycott the Nordiques 2.0 because of some weird pricing scheme like the one you suggest, but that sounds like a rather expensive and complicated system to put into place compared to a perfectly reasonable statement that ticket prices will be reevaluated yearly and the exchange rate will be one of the many factors considered.

On The Quiz on TSN, McKenzie said (again) that he wouldn't be surprised if the league only expended by 1 (Vegas).

It better be 2 or 0.

L'ill Gary likes to have a soft landing spot if the need for relocation arises. If Portland or Seattle can provide that spot expect 2 expansion franchises to be awarded. If Portland or Seattle can't provide a soft landing spot for a team in immediate need of relocation I expect a single announcement.

The fact that this process has been so public could be a positive for both potential expansion markets. When TNSE was meeting with the NHL in NYC along with other possible markets for relocation it was kept pretty quiet but that may just be the difference between relocation and expansion.

Edit: it took TNSE four years from their presentation to the league to get a team.

The first showed up in 2007. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman approached Mark Chipman, chairman of TNSE and then-governor of the Manitoba Moose, and asked him to meet with the executive committee of the NHL Board of Directors to give a presentation on how an NHL team could succeed in Manitoba.

Clearly there are two different processes at work here.

QC certainly deserves a team as it fits all criteria required but Leblanc's follies in Arizona may have changed the dynamics of the process and some mutts may soon find themselves in need of adoption.

If Bettman is able to convince the owners of the likes of Arizona, Carolina, New Jersey, Nashville, Ottawa, etc., to leave half a billion dollars on the table they may never see again, then he has these suckers at the palm of his hand.

If its 0 this will be one the biggest joke in league history, how many suckers will they find to give them 2M the next time around ?

Could not find info for quebec, but Mtl is 24 x 40 and quebec is supposed to be slightly bigger. the 9x11 is probably metric, so it translate to 30 x 36. But is it the screen size or the complete jumbotron size ?

The screens fully cover the sides of the jumbotron (or very nearly so). Some of the screen space is dedicated to score, as needed.

To expand on what McKenzie said last night:

The Quiz question was: "How will Quebec City get back in the league? Expansion or relocation?"

Mr. McKenzie said expansion and added that he thought that he wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't during the first round of expansion. Said he thought Las Vegas may be a one off. He added that it was a very plausible possibility.

Since it comes from McKenzie, it does scare me... a lot.

They opened the door for expansion, took the money and then said themselves that they were impressed with the 2 candidates after all 3 phases. If in the end they say no to both of them it would turn out to be the biggest comedy show in NHL history and the league (and future expansion plans) would indeed look like a joke.

So 0 can no longer happen, we're waaaayyy past that point. Vegas gets a team that's nearly 100% certain. Now why McKenzie insisted on saying that the league might just expand by one team, this is the scary part because it's a possibility.

It is very possible that only Vegas gets a team at this time. The thing to remember is that there is a certain team in the Southwestern U.S. that is basically being evicted from their arena in 2 years or it's a strong possibility of that happening... so Gary might just need a place to land that team. QC is the NHL's "break glass in case of emergency", just like Winnipeg was. It's a bit of a risk to give QC an expansion team when you don't know what's going to happen in Glendale / Phoenix.

JMO, but Gary wants to wait and see what happens with the Coyotes, wants to wait and see if Seattle gets in the game, and then will decide what to do with QC. A couple of possible scenarios... Seattle decides to build their arena, the Coyotes move to Seattle, then QC gets expansion OR Seattle never builds their arena, the Coyotes move to QC.

Well it's not the first time McKenzie has mentioned the one-off scenario. But he still says QC will get a team so I wouldn't be too worried....at least long term,

Though, if he's thinking that QC's entry is still expansion over relocation and a second round may happen. How would the league do a second round when only 2 blinked the first time around?

Town NHL hates !
If Gary is worried about the loonie drop in case of Quebec, they should expect a huge drop in their next canadian TV contract...and by drop I mean from 12G to like 1G.
