Man, Keller is looking amazing. I remember some people saying he was too small....and I am sure he was solely responsible for making Bellows..I really hope now that Bellows is pushing himself more..I am hoping pedigree stays and he turns into a valuable asset like his dad...

Had some extra time today and a bug up my rear, so I did some half arsed investigation work that more than proved my suspicion I've felt for awhile now that the Islanders have seriously neglected the talent pool in Europe for a long time now. Going back to the 2010 draft, to hammer this point home I'm going to post who we drafted that year, plus the next three Euros and their positions as well as the next three N.Americans and their draft positions....

2010:
We pick Nino 5th overall (technically a Euro, but was picked out of NA)

Next 3 Euros:
9th - M. Granlundhttp://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=118389
16th - V. Tarasenko
26th - E. Kuznetsov

Next 3 NA:
6th - B. Connelly
7th - J. Skinner
8th - A. Burmistrov (same as Nino)

-----------------------------------------------
2011:
We pick Strome 5th

Next 3 Euros:
6th - M. Zibanejad
10th - J. Brodin
16th J. Armia

Next 3 NA:
7th - M. Scheifele
8th - S. Couturier
9th - D. Hamilton

-------------------------------------------------
2012:
We pick G. Reinhart 4th

Next 3 Euros:
6th - H. Lindholm
11th - F. Forsberg
17th - T. Hertl

Next 3 NA:
5th - M. Reilly
7th - M. Dumba
8th - D. Pouliot

----------------------------------------------------

2013:
We pick R. Pulock 15th

Next 3 Euros:
16th - N. Zadorov
23rd - A. Burakovsky
27th - M.Dano

Next 3 NA:
17 - C. Lazar
18th - M. Mueller
19th - K. Rychel

------------------------------------------------------

2014:
We pick M. dal Colle 5th

Next 3 Euros:
8th - W. Nylander
11th - K. Fiala
13th - J. Vrana

Next 3 NA:
6th - J. Virtanen
7th - H. Fleury
9th - N. Ehlers (Euro, but drafted out of NA)

-----------------------------------------------------------

2015-17 is far too early yet. Take all these players and list them in order of how good they are. Eight of the top 10 are going to be Euros, and at least one of those out of NA is actually European (Ehlers).

Some is hindsight, some was (slightly) obvious at the time. But the Strome, Dal Colle, and Reinhart picks, in particular, really stand out when you consider the impact players picked almost immediately after them.

Looks like Bellows is finally getting some multi point games, 5 points in his last 2 games and their is still some time(period+) left in this game

So he's no longer a bust like he was last week when Portland was scoring a ton without him producing.

I have to admit it was somewhat troubling, I don't expect him to score at a Barzal pace, but anything below a PPG would be a huge disappointment given his age

I'm surprised by how much Dal Colle is struggling to produce even at the AHL level. I thought his skating would hold him back from producing at the NHL level, but I figured he had enough natural talent/skill to be a high scorer in the AHL even with the skating limitations.

Currently his GAA is basically identical to last year and his save percentage is a hair lower than last year, I'm not sure how that's struggling. Is he supposed to score goals as well
Looks like Sorokin is no longer number one for UCKA

Pick is starting to look sickening with Ehlers and Nylander from that draft class. Absolutely brutal!

Well, we keep harping on it, but there's no denying that this team would be in a different place if Snow had nailed it with several of those 1st rounders between 2010 and 2014, when he picked between 4th and 15th every year and 5th overall three times.

Fact is, we're rooting for a team that's on the outside looking in and not one of Niederreiter, Strome, Reinhart, Pulock or Dal Colle is even taking a regular shift. Of course, Eberle and Clutterbuck are here as are Barzal and Beauvillier, all of whom were acquired thanks to trades involving Niederreiter, Strome, and Reinhart, but it doesn't change the fact that none of those picks have positively impacted this franchise's on-ice success.

I. LOVE. THIS. POST.

So many great things here, but love that you took the time to do research and use facts to back up your theory that the Isles are mainly ignoring Europe when it comes to drafting.

However the biggest issue here is what I've been screaming about for years now...And that is garth snow failed the "rebuild" because he has failed at drafting in the top-10 where you need to get those impact players. Even ignoring all European prospects, snow still could've made excellent picks just drafting guys from North America, but he failed that too.

And the best one he picked (Nino) he traded away for a 4th liner.

It's a total fail across the board for snow as he is responsible for drafting and now you're seeing why the current Islanders team is painfully average as a result. Imagine if we had 3 more talents like the ones he missed above. It's literally the difference between team scratching for the playoffs and Cup Contender.
