As of right now, on paper you are probably right, but they still have moves to make. Especially Toronto/Tampa

Everyone still has moves left. Montreal has money to spend as well. Florida still needs to sign Bennett and Reinhart, get another Dman, and they will try to get Barkov locked up long term. There is much uncertainty left even before the start of training camp

Panthers will be filthy:

Verhaeghe - Barkov - Reinhart
Huberdeau - Bennett - Tippett
Duclair - Lundell - Hornqvist
Denisenko - Acciari - Heponiemi/Vatrano

Ekblad - Weegar
Forsling - Gudas
Nutivaara - Stralman

Bob/Knight

Thats a "pretty good" lineup. If they add a Top4 D they will be hard to stop. I assume Vatrano, Luostarinen, Saarela etc. are on the block + picks. Also Suter/Hakanpää from UFA would be an option
Just need a Goalie...

So is the feeling basically that this year's 1sts were like seconds or something. I have a hard time understanding how Risto went for more lol

Market in D was clearly more aggressive than UFA to be forwards

Best of luck Sam! The amount of shit he got from some of the bitter Buffalo hockey press (and by proxy some of those who take those chuckleheads seriously) was unwarranted. It also took until the end of his tenure in town before a coach utilized you at center in the NHL... and lo-and-behold it was excellent. You'll fit in well in Florida and Q gets a recast version of Patrick Sharp to plug into his lineup.

Buffalo will come out of this ahead with another top 3 first round pick .... in what some say will be a really good draft year.

Stud D man
top 3 2022 draft selection
Whatever they get for sucky Eichel

Have you even looked at the trade criteria?

If Florida picks in the top 3 next year, almost certainly an impossibility given their current roster, then that pick is protected and the Sabers gets the 2023 first rounder instead.

They went 6 against Tampa and had a game that they themselves blew. Could’ve easily been losing to Tampa in 7. Not sure how they got ‘wrecked.’

And when did it become a thing to not try to make a team better to get past their primary divisional foes? Florida made themselves better up front in an attempt to get past Tampa by this without touching their core. And further agreeing - they did not get wrecked.

Yeah I could see Suter and they will move out Stralman. Panthers will be a top team for years if they can sign Barkov and Hub which I believe they can.

Sabres fans are a bit too upset. Your GM didn't crap the bed IMO, he was playing from weakness. (For the record, I'm a Panthers fan.)

The deal was actually close to fair, with Florida coming ahead BUT the reasons have been listed. 1) Reino wasn't going to stay, and everyone knew that, so value keeps going down, best to do a deal now. 2) Levi only doesn't look that good of a return because Panthers Goalie depth (and that's not counting anchor Bob) made him "look" more expendable. He's proven plenty of people wrong already. 3) Buffalo probably got the best deal on the table because of uncertainty of Reino contract. 4) Zito was willing to roll the contract dice because his team looks good on paper and almost all players want to win at some point, Reino maybe thinks this is perhaps the chance of his career.

In summary, Sabres fans IMO are mostly upset because the deal wasn't painful to Zito. That alone doesn't make it awful. Buffalo's hand was severely limited, they did the best they could. Zito was looking at other pieces too, so unlike Flyers, he was willing to walk away. You always have to be willing to walk away if you want a good deal. If Buffalo waits, then fans yell "he got next to nothing for Reino when he could have got a first before the season!!"

Sam Reinhart is not Patrick Sharp stop. Buffalo would have won way more games if he was.

If the sabres can fill in 2-3 roster needs with the Eichel deal it could turn their franchise around in a hurry.
