If Slepy did play on the PK, it was only at the tail end of the PK. I don't remember him ever being a staple on either PK unit. He is pretty defensively responsible though.

Fair point.
Slepyshev has been injured a lot this season and he has played less than 2 min on the PK so far.
I think he should be used more. He has good speed/lateral movement and he is defensively responsible as you indicated.

TM had indicated that he wanted to get him playing more PK time to get him on the ice more, but I dont think it has happened because hes been injured.

Would be interested to see how he does on the PK. Slepshev is not a player I think of when it comes to defensive awareness but then on the other hand I cant remember watching a game where he has made a gross giveaway that resulted in a goal against.

Slepyshev is very good defensively... before this year his stats at 5 on 5 were 1.55 GA/60 when he's on the ice vs his teammates which had stats of 2.39 GA/60.

It's the lack of consistent offense from Slepyshev that's far more concerning than any defensive deficiencies.

Honestly I could see Cammy fitting well with RNH and Pulju. Lucic been okay there, but it's clear he's a lot better with linemates that can cycle, enter Kassian on the third line.

Maroon-McDavid-Draisaitl
Cammy-RNH-Puljujarvi
Lucic-Strome-Kassian
Khaira-Letestu-Caggiula/Pakman

Not going to lie, If I'm Letestu I'm looking over my shoulder. Especially with Khaira now starting to play better. When healthy I like the look of...

Maroon-McDavid-Draisaitl
Cammy/Lucic-RNH-Puljujarvi
Cammy/Lucic-Strome-Slepyshev
Caggiula-Khaira-Kassian

Not sure whom I'd take out for Testtube there.

Why would you give Nuge and a rookie a worse offensive line mate who’s also tiny and doesn’t do much without the puck or bring anything different to the line? What a bad idea. Lucic and Nuge have finally given us a great second line the past 6 games and you want to split them? That’s insane.

I don't see taking Lucic off that line right now. He's got his game going, and that line needs to be able to go up against tough competition. Bottom 6 with some pp until injuries happen _/:)/)\_

I actually wouldnt mind dropping Letestu who has been useless this year. Make Khaira 4th line centre. That was the plan at the start of the year.
I agree with ya. Letestu does not look good. Puju, Khaira, Slephy, and Cagg all deserve a chance

Nuge has defintely been better this year, but IMO the 2nd line has been at its best with the current form. I think Jesse's speed and energy helps in creating more room for skilled players so as long as he keeps this level (or even better like against the Rangers) he should be a good fit with Nuge or McDavid.

I think a Lucic - Nuge - Cammalleri line could work. I mean it worked in Nintendo Ice Hockey. :D

LA fans sure aren't too happy with the deal. But those that are say that they're giving up a little bit of offense for a little bit of better defensive play.
One weird thing is 2G 2A 4pts from Camm came in one game. Against Montreal afairc. I do like it as Camm can slot in on topsix and even 2nd unit pp when we need a differnet look. I really don't like using slot ins like Letestu or Cagg in that role.

But all that said the Oilers let Desharnais walk and he's a better support player than either of Camm or Jokinen imo and played I thought well against us in the recent game. I couldn't figure that they let him walk. There was a case of a guy that came in here and did a pretty reasonable accounting of himself and was good in the playoffs. Its really nice to have support talent like Desharnais and Camm that can help on bottom six as well in puck control and distributing. We got a lot of big bodies in bottomsix but not much finesse.

I could be wrong but I think that Desharnais didn't want to return. IIRC in the playoffs he said something about how after the OT goal he started to feel like he was part of the team. I found that to be an odd remark at the time.

I think management was probably expecting Slepyshev, Cagguila, Pak etc to step up and make a greater contribution. Probably wanted to focus on growing the young guys. Would work for me if they didn't all get injured every other week.

Pakarinen kills penalties and is a defensive specialist who insures numbers back and is hard to play against.

The Oilers have struggled on the pk and they're going to pull Pak? I doubt it. He's been playing well.

Pakarinen is an instant turnover every time the puck comes near him. A defensive specialist wouldn't throw the puck away every time he faces a little bit of pressure.
