I equate Perry to being a Maroon type of player these days. When he's feeling it he can be a pretty effective (complimentary) top-6 winger that can facilitate and collect points alongside quality linemates. He's pretty good in the offensive zone when his line has full possession (though he's weaker along the boards than Maroon and less physical, but makes up for it with a much higher level of skill/vision), but once there's a race to a loose puck or it goes the other way, his terrible skating limits him to being a one zone player, so he can be a liability in that way.

I don't have an issue with him playing on the 4th line or wherever it makes the most sense regardless of his salary. His cap hit is brutal, but it is what it is at this point, I don't think decisions about his usage should be based on that.

good to see perry taking his rightful place on the 4th line... hope he can figure it out because next step is pressbox.

I don't agree with this. Perry sucks this year, and IMO, shouldn't be on the top line, but he shouldn't be on the 4th line either.

Rakell-Getzlaf-Kase
Cogliano-Kesler-Silfverberg
Ritchie-Henrique-Perry
Wagner-Vermette-Brown

This should be the lineup they use consistently IMO.

Agreed. Perry and Henrique had something going earlier in the year, that lineup makes sense to try.

Agreed. I also think Perry does much better when he doesn't face the same quality of defense as Getzlaf does. I think that's something Carlyle is overlooking. Perry still tries those dangles that he used to be able to pull off. He has more success facing other teams' 2nd or 3rd pair doing so now. I do worry a bit about that line defensively against deeper teams but I don't think having Kase in there over Perry makes it any more defensive.

keep perry on the 4th line where he belongs

i'm fine with RC trying him with henrique but that kase-henrique-ritchie line was actually playing well

Why not just sit him.....I know he isn't as bad as we probably make it, but man, at times his skating looks like it can't get him where his brain wants to go

Not even mad anymore, it's just sad to watch him sometimes

he just can't keep up anymore
He can't keep up, yet still produces way more than the guys you want to replace him in the lineup with. Roy is just as much of a defensive liability as Perry and he hasn't proven to be able to put up those kind of points on a regular basis. I would rather have Perry out there in a lesser role with Kase getting a bigger role

At worst he should be on the 4th line. There's no way he's not a top 12 forward on this team, as frustrating as he is now

I'm not defending the contract. It's a sunk cost and it's terrible and it will burn this team for the next 3+ years but you have to ignore that when you are making lineup decisions. And a guy that can put up 50 points should still be in the lineup in some capacity

I hate using points to evaluate players because guys like Perry because they pick up so many phantom points.

As far as my opinion is concerned, he shouldn't be on the 4th line or scratched for any other reason to light a fire underneath him, but he's not a 50-point caliber forward, either.

I was pretty unclear on my post, and I agree with yours in that kicking him in the pants with a night off could do something....I have never liked how accountability seems random with the Ducks....of course he scores tonight off an amazing pass ....I am definitely the reverse jinx of all time

Phantom points? The majority of his points this year came playing with Grant and Rakell on his line when he had that stretch where he was setting people up

He's leached less off of Getzlaf this year than he ever has in his career

I'm not suggesting that he's "leeching" off of anyone. I'm saying that he's one of the guys who plays below-par (for the Perry we're used to, at least) and still somehow manages to put up points at the end of the day. He's transitioned to more of a playmaker/complimentary role fairly well but he's not a 50-point forward. He's got the vision and hands to play at that level but he's too slow to keep up with himself. Too slow to hold much defensive value, as well.

weird...1st game on the 4th line, and he finds the back of the net.....i really liked/like him with henrique but i think the message NEEDED to be sent....i think his "perfect" spot is with henrique but at this point he needs to show he wants to be there.

So he's not a 50-point forward, except for the fact that he is.

Okay

He's not going to look good out there anymore. His one redeeming quality is being a guy that can put up the points he does

So after the recent complaining about him in this thread he gets a goal and a assist
i HOPE that EVERYONE is wanting perry to turn it around....but he couldnt hold/control the puck anymore and was killing that top line, putting him on the 2nd line just doesnt make any sense, so he has become a a bottom 6 forward for us...i think he should play with henrique (or i should say i HOPE he proves he belongs there) but he NEEDS a wake up call, or something to try and get him going, and that is because he is making 10mil a year and is a bottom 6'er. but that is still better then him not being a NHL player and impossible to move or play.

Putting up points doesn't always equal having an equally positive effect on the game. He's still arguably a top 6 forward when it comes to offensive skill, but not overall. And if we're just using points to evaluate, the other guys we have hanging in the 40-50 point range right now -- Silfverberg, Kase, and Henrique -- are all better than Perry at this point on both sides of the puck, and Perry is making more this year than all three of them combined. Perry's vision is his saving grace, but he's too slow to do much with it, he's no longer strong enough on the puck to make up for that deficiency, and he's poor defensively to boot, especially with his diminishing skating ability.

To hell with his point totals. They're empty.

He is what he is now, I was hopeful he could still play with Getzlaf but the mobility isn't there anymore you can tell he's losing strength in his legs as he doesn't win puck battles like he used to, but he can probably still be an asset in our bottom 6 and as a PP specialist but you want more than that for what you pay, but we knew this could happen when he got that contract.

On the fourth line where he isn't facing the top defensive pairing and on the power play. So maybe he should stay on the fourth or maybe third line for a while.
