Pretty cool the Monsters signed Carter Camper to a 2 year deal. He grew up in Rocky River, which is only about 15-20 mins away. Considering he's 29 and a full-time AHL'er, playing at home is probably as good as it gets.

He can put up decent numbers too. Wonder if he's a candidate for the C. Hometown guy, Veteran, AHL all-star, Miami U captain...

I don't know his personality or how strong of a leader he is, but the resume is pretty strong all things considered.

also: "That was sick. He had more moves than a Chinese.........."

I have absolutely no link to prove this, but when the 2007 draft was announced to be in Columbus, Doug MacLean spoke extremely highly of Camper on air (during an intermission of a game IIRC) and basically said he was worthy of a first round pick and that we may take him.

Oh, memories

schedule changes

11/15 vs. Milwaukee now on 11/16
12/23 vs. Milwaukee moved from 1 PM to 7 PM
2/3 vs. Grand Rapids now 2/2 at 7 PM

https://www.clevelandmonsters.com/team/news/monsters-announce-three-schedule-changes-2017-18-season

No idea on 11/15 change
12/23 was probably at 1 PM assuming a Cavs game that never materialized
2/3 Cavs game is on ABC and, IIRC, ABC games lay claim to an arena for the whole day due to camera setup (and maybe to make the ABC games seem like a bigger event)

I was looking through AHL preseason schedule announcements (done team-by-team) and it looks like the Monsters would play Grand Rapids if they play preseason games at all (Monsters and GR only two teams not listed on any announced schedule).

Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if the Monsters sit out the preseason and play their first game on opening night.

press release

https://www.clevelandmonsters.com/team/news/cleveland-monsters-announce-2017-18-promotional-schedule

I don't have the time or energy now to dissect the promo schedule (recovering from a nasty cold), but I did notice that the Blue Jackets nights are no longer automatically on Fridays, so if you're heading down for a weekend game, you may have to choose between seeing the Monsters in Jackets colors or getting the cheap beer/soda deals.

Before you read this post I made which is too damn long probably not going to be read:

If you park at the Gateway parking garage, even if you have a parking pass, you may be asked to park somewhere else if there is a 'big' Indians game being played at or near the same time as the Monsters game. Be prepared! (also be prepared for exorbitant parking prices in the area)

It seems like there are a lot of matinee games this year. Just about every weeknight game is a Blue Jackets jersey night. Also, every Saturday matinee game is a Blue Jackets jersey game.

A jersey auction night usually indicates the Monsters are wearing a special jersey for that game. If you are interested in buying one of these auctioned jerseys, be prepared to spend upwards of $300, depending on player.

From the Website:
EVERY WEEKDAY GAME
is a College ID Night featuring special $6 tickets with a valid college ID and a $6 College Meal Deal that includes a Sugardale hotdog, ice-cold Pepsi and chips.
EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT GAME is a “1-2-3 Friday” where fans can enjoy $1 Pepsi products, $2 Sugardale hotdogs and $3 draft beer specials.
EVERY SUNDAY MATINEE GAME
is a KIDS DAY GAME Monsters Kids Meals will also be available featuring a Sugardale hotdog, an ice-cold Pepsi, and chips for only $6. Five of the KIDS DAY GAMES will feature a FREE Postgame Skate!

I was at practice today. Roster update forthcoming (some other observations, too, but today was mostly about getting a grip on the roster).

preliminary camp roster

Austin and Mitchell in camp on tryouts

https://www.clevelandmonsters.com/team/news/monsters-sign-mitchell-austin-tryout-agreements

As I mentioned in the training camp thread, Sherwood, Ramage, Vigneault, and Pendenza were on the ice today. Sherwood and Pendenza skated in the main practice (Pendenza started in a regular jersey before switching to the red injury jersey for the rest of practice while Sherwood wore the red jersey the whole time) while Ramage and Vigneault skated before the main practice.

Forwards were split into two groups by jersey color, not sure of the significance.

grey: Bittner, Moutrey, Koules, Broadhurst, Scott, and Mitchell

blue: Maletta, Thurkauf, MacIntyre, Pendenza, Gallant, and Camper

non-roster observations to come in another post.

For those coming to Opening Night, there's no issues with parking due to the Indians as next Saturday is a travel day between games 2 and 3 of the American League Division Series.

As I said, I was mostly focusing on the roster, but Thurkauf and Benoit stood out as two of the better players on the ice.

Also, the fact that the players had been in Jackets camp for so long meant that this practice was at a much brisker pace than usual for a training camp opening day.

The effects of Tortorella's conditioning emphasis and the chemistry from having already practiced together in the "Cleveland" group at Jackets camp were evident in the pace and quality of the practice.

I Attended the final training amp practice today. Goalies seemed to be the best players during the drills. They scrimmaged for about 15-20 minutes toward the end. It got pretty chippy. These guys look ready to face somebody in a different uniform.

Opening Night roster must be set before midnight tonight.

Forward groups:

Blue - Koules, Scott, MacIntyre, Gallant, Maletta, Bittner, Hodgson
Grey - Sherwood, Moutrey, Broadhurst, Mitchell, Motte, Thurkauf, Camper

They split the defensemen into blue and grey for the scrimmage but I don't have the breakdown (too busy watching the scrimmage).

All defensemen and goaltenders skated and were healthy.

Pendenza skated in the main practice but wore the red injury jersey. He seemed to be going 100% in the drills. He has probably been cleared for everything but contact.

Vigneault skated before the main practice.

Schroeder did not participate in the practice. I'm not sure if he's still with the Jackets or in Cleveland but unable to practice.

If Austin makes the opening night roster, thye will have to sign him to full PTO (currently on a camp tryout contract).

Jackets assign Josh Anderson to Cleveland on a conditioning assignment and send Markus Nutivaara to Cleveland.
