Stunk up the joint.

Can we talk about how useless the second line has been the last 10 games. Monohan has cooled right off after a few tip goals and doesn't drive play like a proper 2C. Looking a lot more like the limited specialist he was with Montreal.

Anyways maybe trusting completely in vets isn't always the way to go.
i couldn't watch last night. but monahan really hasn't elevated past the point it was with namestnikov through end of Dec/early-Jan imo. I do think they need a better player than Iafallo on the wing and with Toffoli's addition they have some real good options now.

As it stands Kupari is just another guy, Iafallo and his points early were more a product of his linemates, and Vilardi is injured.............a lot, but we got rid of PLD so the trade as of today is still a win.
kupari showed some promise to start the year. unfortunately the production doesn't match the jump and seem like he's closer to being just another guy out there vs anything special. Vilardi has definitely been better than PLD this year, idk if PLD would've been this bad if he was still here given his last couple seasons with the Jets.

PLD did start v slow and pretty bad after his trade here, granted different world/circumstances back then, but maybe it takes a year for him :dunno:

You could see when Names and Ehlers got back together they have chemistry. I would keep them together.

I don't know why we haven't gone back to the Name, Perfetti and Ehlers line. It was the best second line we have run this year. Monahan hasn't clicked with any of our skilled players.
b/c we spent a 1st+ on Monahan so he will get top-6 time. and Perfetti hasn't been good for 2.5 months.

Agree about Monahan, no matter what he does he is the 2c for this run. Simply not true about Perfetti. Points haven’t been there for two months but in that time he should have had 10plus points and if he had any puck luck we wouldn’t be having this conversation. He hasn’t been good the last 2-3 weeks but the bad puck luck and lack of trust from the coach have stripped away any confidence that was built up after the great first half. At some point they need to let him play again with top players with good minutes to see if he can get that confidence back.

With how deep the team is he may not get a chance for a bit but when he does eventually get a shot I bet he runs with it.

He’s still a huge part of the future so I hope they are communicating with him regularly.

at some point it doesn't matter how you are playing you need to actually produce, perfetti hit that point, he's still going to be a big part of the future he just isn't going to be a huge part of the present

Agreed. They are trying to force Sean to work and it isn't 5 on 5. Pp and en points are masking just how ineffective he's been at 5 on 5.

Could cost the team in playoffs if that line can't figure things out in 5 on 5 situations.

So why doesn't that matter for anyone else on the second line. None are producing 5 on 5 yet the coach still trots them out for big minutes. And no EN points don't count for me.

yeah it's not like he's been playing with crap all year. 90% of the season including large part of 2024 it's 2nd line.

i agree, top-6ers need to produce offence. the alternative in iafallo has been doing what out there? miss me with the "small things" stuff b/c your average mid level guy can do that along w/ some offense.

nevertheless, all this should be in the past w/ toffoli in the fold and healthy vilardi.

I didn't get a chance to watch much of this one - looks like they had a rough night/
Looking forward to see our new guys in the lineup - and Vilardi back in. We need to see how the pcs will fit ASAP

it does matter... that's why they went out and got toffoli at the deadline... I don't think they liked having to play iaffalo in the top six he was demoted before perfetti

Maybe the center is the issue. Seems like they are trying to construct a completely new second line mid season when the one they had the first half was just fine.

or maybe perfetti just isn't ready yet, like many other young players before him..

Could be that as well, but not like Monohan is doing anything with a very good player Ehlers.

Just seems weird that they kept him there for months and months. Kept Appleton on the third line forever when he went through a cold spell too.

It only matters when it's a kid. As seen he wouldn't dare if it's a vet.

I think it’s playstyles too. Appleton and Iafallo are similar, and I think they play the game Bones likes, so they get favourable usage compared to players with other playstyles.

I agree but there at e a lot of players who haven’t been producing for a long time. Iafallo playing 1st pp and 18 mins a night has like 3 points in his last 25 games. Apples, Lowry, Barron, Gus, Kupari etc.. Cole is still is 6th on the team in scoring for the season and is still a top pp option for this team. That has to count for something.

do people not remember that when we got monahan that iaffalo was the one who was put on the 4th line and not perfetti? perfetti was kept in the top 6 and didn't produce then the change was made... it's like people want to argue that cole should be in the top 6 over iaffalo when neither should be in the top six and we literally went out and got somebody to go in the top six

iaffalo will be on the 4th line and off the powerplay next week and gus/kurpari will be out of the line up as well

yeah that's true. that 2nd line was pretty unspectacular. it still hasn't been great w/ iafallo though. however think it will be given a boost post-tdl.
