According to elite prospects, Jarventie is now 6 foot 2, 214. That's a big boy and he's got a cannon for a shot. He moved to C half way thru last year and did well there. If he gets comfortable using that frame on the walls, he might be a fine player

I'm going to go out on one of my famous limbs and say that he will never become a regular NHL player.

I have higher hopes for Ostapchuk and Crookshank than Sokolov and Jarventie.

But hey, he was always going to have a longer development curve so maybe I'll be famously wrong again.

I don't hold out any hope for Sokolov either but I'm hoping we have something in Jarventie. Ostapchuk I like too.

That's a part of the issue I have with Jarventie. Skilled, big frame but doesn't put the work in the dirty areas. In a lot of ways he reminds of Logan Brown, maybe not as lethargic but same issues will hold him back.

Nah b, you got Boom Boom wrong. Jarventie improved his game last year when he was moved to C. Still work in progress, but he has all the tools (size, speed, shot) and natural scoring prowess (against men as a teen), he needs to learn how to be effective in all three zones without the puck to become a regular in the NHL. I see him as a 3LW and PP2 specialist in the big show. He is less boombustic now then he looked in the first covid WJC horror show with deer-headlights syndrome.

Get that oven running while I catch that crow. Might take a while though.

I love me the taste of crow when I'm wrong about a Senators prospect not panning out.

I don't get it, he lost an inch?

He went from a much taller than average, but very skinny guy to an average height, but heavier than average build?

I used to see 6'3-6'4 for his height along with a weight of 186-205 depending on the year.

Now he's 6'2 ,214??

He’s only 20, turns 21 in a month, he’s still young.

Decent numbers for a 20 year old in the AHL, has the tools (size, skating). What's the knock on him, is he pedestrian and bad defensively?
He’s improving in all areas. The knock by some is that he’s not peterka.
Big year for him coming up. Hoping for a kubalik type middle 6 player for us in the future

To me he still has significant upside. Still adjusting to the NA game and he put up basically the same numbers as Greig.

His effort has been questioned but I watched a couple of vids of his games in Europe and he was hustling. Hopefully with maturity he fulfills his potential. I think he could be a second liner.

Based on my limited viewings, I think his problem will be that he has heavy feet. Moving him to center was a good idea, we'll see if it pans out.

I agree with @NyQuil that guys like Ostapchuk and (maybe) Crookshank are more likely to establish themselves as NHL players.

By heavy feet do you mean slow? If so, isn't moving a slow guy to center the last thing you'd do?

I mean, Kubalik could stink. We haven't seen him play yet.
Oh HIM. Thought you meant jarventie not playing for us (although he played one or two right?)
Yeah well like what kubalik has been up till now. Somewhat inconsistent 6’2” 20-30 goal scorer.

Still think this kid can turn into a servicable 3rd line/middle 6 winger. I mentioned it before as did a few others, he was drafted as a long term project that had a very attractive tool set who could have a high upside if he manages to put it all together, but it required alot of effort on his side to make it happen.

One thing people forget was that we were really lacking a true trigger man type prospect in our talent pool, and I think that was his main attraction at the time when we selected him. His slapper and wrist shot was his biggest attributes, he has a shooters mentality and we really needed someone like that in our prospect depth. Coupled with his size of 6.2-6.3 (altho extremely slender at the time), good north-south skating, decent lateral movement/puck handling and passing/playmaking ability, and being one of the youngest players of his draft class, we targeted him as a risky project with potentially high offensive upside.

Biggest knock on him was his lack of motor, he often just enters the o-zone, finds an open spot and camps there waiting for someone to set him up for a shot on net. Also doesn't seem to bother playing much defense, and had no physical edge to his game. Definitely not a choache's dream.

Although he hasn't seemed to improve much on alot of his already identified deficiencies, he still has a decent chance of becoming a one dimensional type scoring winger for us in the future, something like a Hoffman-light, 20-20 NHLer. Don't think we should write him off as a bust just yet, he's got a couple more years left to make the jump.

Not sure if many actually watched Jarventie and his progression. This guy went from being screamed at by every person in Finland to gtfo to everyone holding their breath when he had the puck because he was their best bet to score the following year.

There's a reason why he moved to C, staff saw his great progress and he showed improvement and success there as well. That aint easy to do as a 20 year old in AHL. Also got same total points in nearly half games played in second year of AHL.

Even with his flaws(which he is working on), he exudes a certain level of calmness and flashes of high level skill that cannot be taught at his age. He also has a mean streak and can be quite physical and difficult to handle.

Jarventie was always, always a project. 4 years out minimum. If he scores PPG next year, he will be on same progression path as ~ 40 goal PPG and near Conn Smythe frontfrunner Roope Hintz.

Do I think he'll end up like Hintz? No, but there's as solid a chance of an NHL career in Jarventie as any prospect we have.

He has the skill and physical attributes to at least play top 9 role for multiple seasons in the NHL, imo.
