I`m making big video of Bardakov. If people worry about grit (not Grit-syuk) in our bottom line, I have something for them.

He definitely plays a traditional bottom six NHL style. The question I have with him is would he want to come over to play a bottom six role at a lower pay than staying home in the KHL where he can probably make more money? He would be similar to McLeod most likely and in a couple of years could fill that role potentially.

Good question. First of all we don`t what kind of role he can play on NHL role. He is playing top-6 role sometimes in ES now because he is good in forechecking. And I know we all dream about Nico, Jack, Bratt, Meier and a couple of other huge top-6 forwards in our top-6, but still have no Meier, and even when we will have, someone should play retrieving role, like we saw with Tatar and Haula through the year. And Devils don`t have much centers anyway, he can grow into the third line\regular PK center, that can give him a chance to earn 3 mil if he will produce 30-35 points. I don`t think he has chances to earn that amount of money in KHL.
Again I don`t think he is top six player, he doesn`t have shot for that, but he can be very good forechecking forward, he reads the game very well, it may help him to play different roles and more minutes. And he is center and our center prospect pool svck.
Arseniy\Shakir\Okhotiuk in the roster would help too.

How is his in zone defensive coverage? If he could be a true defensive center that would be very attractive to NJ. McLeod for all his face-off work and penalty killing doesn't seem that great at actually playing defensively against other teams' better players. If he could he'd be much more important.

I`m on my way on his defensive coverages. Anyway I see he create a lot of movements and protecting the zone, overall good positioning. But defensive game in KHL and NHL is a different anymal, you can`t be sure before you will see how it works on NHL rinks and speed. I will focus on it in the next game, I understand that defensive center is a big asking from a player on NHL level and player should be very good.

Do players make more money in the KHL if they have played in the NHL?

They definitely used to because they were exempt from the KHL salary cap, it's unclear whether the league followed through on that.

I'm much more excited about Bardakov than I am Filmon. Leading SKA in PK time while only 21 years old and still producing solid offensive production while playing a defensive minded role is extremely impressive. His contract runs until the end of the 23-24 KHL season but I could see him being a plug and play bottom 6 player immediately in the NHL after his contract is up.

It looks like he played 9 of 15 games in the playoffs for SKA. Was that due to injury or coach's preference?

Obviously he has one year left on his KHL contract so he won't be joining Utica for this year's playoffs.

Is there a spot for him in the organization?

(He turned 22 in February).

Zakhar Bardakov #10 blue jersey, WCF game vs CSKA, active moments, offensive & defensive, good & bad

finally some western analytics figure out that Bardakov isn`t that bad. I was so surprised that Bardakov, it turns out, is quite good that I even decided to make a video with him.

You’ve been nice enough to share some Bardakhov video before with us. Thanks as always. Will I need to use lemons to watch these?

Bardakov remains a testament to how well the Devils have drafted in the 7th round and out of Russia in recent years, usually simultaneously. Bardakov and Barabosha were both 2nd/3rd round values, and so was Karpovich who was drafted in the 6th this year, but also with the final NJ draft selection.
Bardakov falling to the 7th never made sense to me. That 2021 draft because of COVID was the biggest unknown class probably ever, yet Bardakov, who played a full season and produced some great numbers playing in the KHL at 20, somehow fell to the 7th round. Absolutely bonkers. The number of guys picked ahead of him who hadn't played hockey in a year and a half was ridiculous. Especially in, at the bare minimum, the 4th round, teams should've been jumping all over Bardakov to get one of the few "known commodities" left.

Their loss is our gain.
