Here is the write-up about Bardakov from the delightful Russian prospect board expert Caser’s always useful annual list of Russian prospects.

Zakhar was the 6th forward listed and the 10th prospect overall and he rated him as a 3rd round talent.

Very strong, relentless power forward with good motor, great at creating net-front presence. Despite the solid KHL production I'm not sure if I'd value Bardakov's offensive potential too high, as his skillset seems to be pretty mediocre and he keeps his game rather simple, but good hard workers like him are always welcome in hockey, including the NHL.

I found that interesting that Bardakov is ranked 59th in the NHL Draft Black Book.

"Certain players stand out because of their mental game, as opposed to their skill set. You can’t teach heart, you can’t teach a player how to develop and maintain an unrelenting drive who will fight for every inch of ice, who plays every shift like it’s their last. You can’t expect a player to drop the gloves if it’s not embedded in their DNA, and you can’t teach a player to play way bigger than their size. Which is exactly why we value the unrelenting - high octane - tenacious winger that makes up Zakhar Bardakov."

A “menace on skates” is favorite part of The Draft Analyst 2021 NHL Draft Report

A garbage goal specialist from the highlights, and I love it. That's what we were hoping for with Johnsson. If he can be a pest, get to the crease at any cost, puts forth a berserk amount of effort with limited ice time, and not be a liability, he should have a future despite a lack of high-end skill and skating. This is a guy coaches will obviously love, and analytics driven people also have a fancy for since he cashes in on those xGs around the net.

Zakhar Bardakov #10 blue jersey, game SKA vs Barys, 03 sept 2022, All actions, good and bad.

This is the second game I`m watching him closely this season.
Guy is synonym of interior forward. He always goin on the slot and play behind the net. Make all dirty work, trying to take away the puck all the time. Good on the boards. He has some speed and he is good skater. See partners well. Play PK. Can`t call him good transition player or playmaking. But it isn`t his role.

Something big today
One video, two prospetcs.

Arseniy Gritsyuk #81 white jersey
and Zakhar Bardakov #10 blue jersey.
07 sept 2022
SKA vs Avangard
All actions of both. Good and Bad

Gritsyuk was good.
But I was really impressed by Zakhar. Bardakov was very proactive, very reactive, a lot of PK minutes, always trying to take away the puck. Made final assist on EN goal. But assist was good. Hits, blockshots, board game. Watch the video, guys.

He looks better in that video than McLeod does to me.

I'm not in a hurry to inflate the hype yet. But I get the feeling that Bardakov sees the partners and the ice in general better. Maybe he's not that fast, but he can ride not only from north to south, but horizontal movement is fine. And he is fast. I don`t see playmaking potential, but he is going on the boards or on the slot, play behind the net. He moves a lot and he watches the game, watches the partners. MacLeod often gives the impression of a player who does not see his partners very well.
Coaches trust him more now and he play defensive\forechecking\interior role. And I like it. I believe this is what we are looking in him.
