I see why I wasn't gunna pry Sanheim away from you earlier

...and again it's hard not to be impressed with the way Da Beast has completely re-built that core. With a little lotto luck next season, those hawks could be a powerhouse through much of the 2020s...and you just know that the league would hook them up with Hughes the year after trading away the rapist.

Trade to announce:

:blues

Alex Killorn
Jake Dotchin

:bolts

Joel Edmundson
Ivan Barbeshev
Stl 2018 4th(Pick #107)

Tampa had it's eyes set on Edmundson for a while now and had been looking for ways to save cap as well. This trade accomplished both of those goals.

STL confirms. Roster and cap are now updated.

Killorn has been quoted in the press to be thrilled to be reunited with former TB teammate Tyler Johnson. In other news, GM nbonaddio has recalled top prospect Robert Thomas to the parent club, and assigned LD Mitch Reinke to San Antonio.

Said GM nbonaddio: "This will likely conclude our activity before the UFA season, where we'll have $10mm to deploy in upgrades. We are thrilled with the progress at turning our squad into a legitimate contender for top talent. We have a center stack of Brayden Schenn/Ryan Nugent-Hopkins/Tyler Johnson that can compete with anyone, with loads of skill on the wing and young talent spread throughout."

We have a trade to announce:

:canes

Nikita Kucherov
Matt Duchene
Boris Katchouk

:bolts

Andrei Svechnikov
Jeff Skinner
Bobby Ryan (@ 5.0M cap)*

:sens

Victor Rask
TBL 2018 1st(Pick #30)
Braydon Coburn
Future Considerations**

* $500k of Bobby Ryans salary has been retained by the Carolina Hurricanes. $1.75M of Bobby Ryans salary has been retained by the Ottawa Senators.

**This piece was initially Valentin Zykov, but after his offer sheet signing today, this will become either the 2nd round compensatory pick received for Zykov, or if the offer is matched, it will be a prospect to be named at a later date.

This trade has literally taken almost an entire day of negotiations, and really from the moment this thing started Murzu and I were in negotiations around Svechnikov and Kucherov. A day or two later NEB and I began discussing a 3-way trade that initially involved Karlsson coming to Tampa but after that ship sailed the conversation shifted a little and this was where we ended up.

For Ottawa, they attempt to fix a mistake by the previous GM in Matt Duchene. They get a Center they believe can be a Top 6 Center for them in a bounce back year, a an additional draft pick in the 2018 draft class, a reliable veteran Defender who will play important minutes and a leadership role to the young Dmen coming into the system, as well as an additional pick in the 2019 draft or a prospect to add to the already healthy pool.

For Carolina, they get an elite winger in Nikita Kucherov and a 1C to play along with him, as well as a prospect to help replenish the pool from previous trades.

With Tampa, it became clear the they would struggle to sign Kucherov next summer to the kind of deal he was looking for, and after a lengthy internal discussion it was decided the best course of action is to move on and gain strong value for the player while they still could. In return they get an elite, elite prospect with upside as good or better then what Kucherov is now along with the cost control that comes with Svechnikov. They also get a proven 30 goal scorer in the league who will come in to help replace Kucherovs production going forward and should be re-signed much more easily and at a better cost number then what Kucherov would have been. On top of this, we get an interesting piece in Bobby Ryan, who has had his share of injuries and struggles in recent years. But is also a proven 30 goal scorer in the past, and will get a chance in Tampa to play with talented players that he hasn't had the luxury of having in a very long time. At $5.0M we thought this was an excellent gamble to take on rejuvenating the career of a player who is a 4-time 30+ goal scorer and knows how to bury the biscuit with the right Center dishing him the puck.

Man, Carolina got a haul. They didn't just fix their issue of struggling to find high end talent, they welded that door shut.

@NOTENOUGHBREWER @Murzu @Everyone else

Confirmed.

We feel there was a big hole in our roster and Rask will fill that void long term. Snicker.

Our analytics team has been hard at work this offseason and by acquiring a Rask and a Nylander there is a good opportunity in the future to acquire other Rasks and Nylanders and get them to share jerseys. This type of innovative thinking will allow the Senators further cost certainty, which is what the fans want to see.

We've managed this off season to maintain the on ice product while staying cost competitive.

We're sorry to see Karlsson Ryan Duchene and Gaborik go but pleased with the salaries of the players we brought in.

Seriously...murzu better not have the cap room to chase Tavares to after all this

...and here I thought I had made big changes...

Well Murzu might not have the space, but Tampa bay is sitting on just a fraction over $13M in cap space right now with one roster spot left to fill...

You can have a guess who that's going towards. John is coming to the Sunshine State where there's super cheap taxes, fantastic weather all year round, and a hockey team that's on the cusp of becoming a dynasty.

Nah...Johnny's been hiding in his pocket since the season ended, recording everything & gathering dirt for us to use to help Tavares see the benefits of centering Gaudreau & Draisaitl :naughty:

I dunno, he could go to Calgary where tax rates are super high, weather is pretty shitting, and join another team having major stadium issues and uncertainty in the organization because of these issues...

Or, he could go join his good buddy Steven in Tampa, where the team is flourishing in a healthy market of fans rabid for another cup and help bring that cup back to the fan base. Hell he can even spend a lot of his time playing on the same line as his buddy Steven since Steve has started playing a lot more wing in the last year or two.

Stamkos - Tavares - Svechnikov

Who wouldn't want to be the Center of that line. :naughty:

How is the stadium situation a problem? The eventual move to Houston is a perk :sarcasm:

@NOTENOUGHBREWER @Murzu @Everyone else

:canes confirm.

We were very excited to pick a player like Svechnikov, but I would be lying if I wouldn't tell you guys that we're even more excited to bring in a player like Nikita Kucherov. We've been scouting him heavily and he is a 100 point franchise player.

The addition of Matt Duchene gives us that player who is capable of playing 1C role between Aho and Kucherov. Katchouk addition will be very helpful for us in the following years when we need offense from players with an ELC.

I feel like we've brought in 1C, elite goalie and franchise winger in just a few days. Hurricanes are ready to compete.

@everyone, we've agreed with NEB that the future considerations is changed into Warren Foegele instead of Zykov.
