I dont see us going pointless with Montreal, Ottawa, Buffalo, and NYI on the schedule still

Realistically we go 2-2 in those, and lose our Pittsburgh and Columbus game. Finish with 69 points (nice). Probably guarantee a bottom 4 finish in the standings. Dont see Buffalo catching us if we win any.

I dont know if we'll pass Vancouver either, their schedule is tough. Anaheim, Edmonton, Columbus, Vegas, Arizona, Edmonton. Lets say get 2 wins in there - which is being generous - they still wouldnt pass us in the above scenario.

Ottawa also has a really tough schedule. NYI, Florida, Detroit, Winnipeg, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Boston. Lets say they go 1-2 with us, buffalo, and NYI the three shit teams. They probably go 0-4 against Florida, Winnipeg, Pittsburgh, Boston. They end with 65 points.

31 Buffalo ??? too lazy too look them up but they suck and are too far behind
30 Ottawa (65)
29 Vancouver (67)
28 Detroit (69)

that's what i predict. If Ottawa beat us we could easily flip around to 30th place, though, because we have less ROWs than Vancouver/Ottawa. Basically, the Ottawa game is going to be the most important i think.

Huge loss tonight, thinking bottom 4 finish is pretty likely. Start Coreau every game, I know that wont happen but should against the Habs, Ottawa Buffalo and at least one more. Jimmy has nothing to play for anyways

I think tomorrow night will say a lot about how the season ends.

Either they respond by summoning a heroic effort against the defending champs, to show they'll fight until game 82...

...or they'll follow up tonight's farce with another fiasco, and the ball of yarn will really unravel, regardless of the quality of the last few opponents.

Since the deadline:

Arizona, 17 points in last 14 games. 1.21 ppg
Buffalo, 11 points in last 13 games, 0.85 ppg
Vancouver, 8 points in last 13 games, 0.62 ppg
Ottawa, 11 points in last 13 games, 0.85 ppg
Detroit, 3 points in last 14 games, 0.21 ppg
Montreal, 12 points in last 15 games, 0.80 ppg

...if they keep the pace:

26. Montreal, 5 games left, 68 points + 4.0 points = 72.0 points
27. Arizona, 6 games left, 63 points + 7.26 points = 70.26 points
28. Ottawa, 7 games left, 63 points + 5.95 points = 68.95 points
29. Vancouver, 6 games left, 63 points + 3.72 points = 66.72 points
30. Detroit, 6 games left, 65 points + 1.26 points = 66.26 points
31. Buffalo, 6 games left, 60 points + 5.1 points =65.1 points

We have been absolutely worst team since the deadline. Others are winning a lot more, and we should drop to Bottom3 if this continues.

So it looks almost certain the Wings should be in a position to draft a tremendous prospect. That's awesome.

But my excitement over that is marred by the looming fear that the Hawks will somehow pick #1.

If the Hawks somehow manage a higher pick than us it would actually be incredibly demoralizing as a fan of the Red Wings.

I genuinely believe our team deserves a little bit of awesome from the draft considering this is essentially the first time in my life I’ll be witnessing a potential first overall for our team. Or even a top three. Though I hope it’ll be a first overall...

The Hawks would waste that players ELC, unless we lock out with compliance buyouts again.

Seabrook is done and Keith is surprisingly awful, if he has also crested this year for good the Hawks are in deep trouble, even with Dahlin. They have a ton of money tied up there so if two players never recover form I am not sure what can be done. Toews also will continue to get worse in my opinion. I do think Saad should bounce back a little next year. Dahlin takes them to the middle of the pack again more than likely where they get stuck in a cycle of being just okay for a long time.

It doesn't matter too much, we look certain to be picking in the top 9 which was what I really wanted this year as I like the entire top 9 of this draft. It would be nice to win or at least pick top 3 but we will have to wait and hope to get lucky there.

My biggest concern is that a tremendously skilled player will be staring Detroit in the face... And the Wings will instead opt for somebody who is "harder to play against" or has a "heavier game".

There is a difference between playing to win, and playing not to lose, and I wonder if their draft strategy is too light on the former, and too heavy on the latter.

Management has made mistakes, but they’re not morons passing an opportunity by not choosing a top prospect.

We’re getting a good pick this year no matter what. No reason to be wary.

People here think they are going to use their 1st pick on Phoebe Chongua whose name has never been mentioned before. But reality is they are going to pick a damn good prospect, but maybe not the exact name some want while others do. I think from #3 to #10 they are all universal. One *might/could* eventually unforseeably turn out to be a superstar that nobody could ever predict at this point.

Last year, they used their highest pick in years on the one guy I wanted no part of. Until the draft is in the books, I absolutely reserve the right to be wary.

I agree we'll get a good prospect this year, but it depends on the philosophy Tyler Wright will employ. Does he go for the best player available? Or the best player 'for the Wings model'. Those can be two distinctly different things.

Man, the way they've set up this idiotic lottery just continues to boggle my mind. The fact that the worst team in the league is more likely to draft 4th than anything is ridiculous.

I think my biggest fear, given that even if we draft 6th or 7th or whatever our worst case scenario is we'll end up with the best prospect we've had in decades, is that Edmonton wins the lottery and the league somehow finds a way to neuter the entire process even further because "it's not fair" or some other silly nonsense. Chicago or Colorado winning would suck, too.

I'm sure we'll get a good pick and turn it into a good prospect.

It's just that the difference between a 1D that everyone is proclaiming as the hybrid of Lidstrom/Karlsson is a world away from everyone else. That's the kind of player you build around. Is that what we're likely to get? Probably not. Makes me super duper sad though.

Disregarding the 1 in a million chance that the Wings just go completely off the books and take some 2nd round projected big grinder, who is your "Rasmussen" among this year's top 10-15 rated prospects? To me pretty much all the top 10 ranked at least look like terrific prospects. Especially if we consider that the Wings are probably leaning towards a d-man unless they're drafting 2/3.

Tkachuk, as I stated earlier in the thread. I'd rather not take a winger to begin with, but if that I'm going down that road with a top 5ish pick, it's only for a guy that's the next punch button All Star for scoring goals, and I don't see Brady being that guy.

My wingers are Zadina, Svech, Wahlstrom, and Tkachuk. In that order. And I'd take any of the top 5-6 defensemen before Brady, because I don't think his skill set will be among the most beneficial of the options available. Even if he hits his ceiling, he's the cherry on the sundae that you add to an offense that's already driven by great centers and has great defensemen, not the guy you heavily invest in to truly begin the rebuild.

Swap Svech & Zadina and I totally agree with you. Tkachuk is very good, but doesn't like he can be elite from what little I've seen.
