I honestly see us moving out one of our top prospects this year for someone with term or someone like Hanifin that would come with an extension. I dont want it to happen and still think we should pull a 2016-17 season and be selling what we can and start bringing up the young kids and prioritize bringing guys like Huuhtanen, Howard, and Duke over
I think what we're all trying to say, with a few die hard exceptions, is that any dealing that may happen should not be done with an eye towards salvaging or propping up this team. If they can make it to the playoffs as constructed or with some very minor surgery, so be it. But that's it.

Wasn't the plan for this season to just role with what we have?

We all knew it was gonna be a rough year with no assests to trade and a depleted roster.

So our goalie who had back surgery is having a down year in front of the worst roster we've had in years.

Seems like things are going about as well as you'd expect.

Which is why buying makes no sense.

I'd start moving out and exploring takers on anybody not Kucherov, Hagel, Point, Hedman, Paul, and Glendening. I threw Luke in there because his toothless smile fosters a welcoming environment.

If there is a trade to be made for Hannifin then make it. Hedman Hannifin and Serge would do wonders.

I think we'd listen on Paul. It would just take a big offer to pry him away. But I'd take a legit top-4 D right now for him, even with the contract.

I'm not gonna disagree there, it'll depend on what he costs but I'm not on board.

Not so sure tbh. He's one of the few value contracts living up to it. He's a third liner playing top 6 nearly all year with PP time at nearly 3M. He's actually exceeding his contract valuation.

Nvm, misread your post. Yeah probably, but I don't think anybody moves a top 4 defenseman for Nick Paul.

What about something like Cirelli + Perbix for Hannifin

Not sure if we'd have to add or not.

Vasy is 29th in the NHL in GAA

29th

That is fing awful. Yes, I am ish'ing all over him right now
I mean, it is what it is. I don't think anyone should be writing him off. It's more about writing off THIS SEASON mainly because of him. Again, he's not the only problem. But if this is one of 10 problems, and we fix the other 9, we still can't win with goaltending this sub-par.

To me the big thing that's changing is I think we should consider some minor selling at the trade deadline. Well, and this makes it kind of important that we know what the deal is with Stamkos. If we can't offer him the money he wants next year, we need to know that, because if that is indeed the case we should listen on offers.

It’s clearly 20/20 hindsight taliking, but losing killorn for nothing hurt us. We need assets, and if we aren’t likely to sign stamkos this summer ( like >85% likely) then you have to get what you can for him at the TDL.

I think with the contract value it's possible he's part of a bigger deal, and I think we'd listen on it. I'm just saying I don't think he's untouchable in the same light as the other players you listed. Not that I think we would shop him.

If you try to rub it on his blocker you’ll just be picking it up out of the back of the net though
Oh God. lol

I think we can all agree that in a non-cap world a guy like Vinik would overpay handsomely to keep Stammer around as a third line and PP specialist because of all that he had meant to the franchise. But it is a cap world and it is now an unreasonable expectation that a player will play his entire career with one franchise. Sentimentality has no place in a hard cap environment.

You can buy small. Not every move needs to be another blockbuster. If we're trying to sneak into the playoffs, this team does need a little help to get there.

Some of these small deals at last year's deadline were guys like Oskar Sundqvist, Curtis Lazar, and Gustav Nyquist going for a mid round pick.
