It’s impressive to watch the kid go into high gear as the games have become more important. It looked like he hit a wall and drove right through it. FYI Zacha too. He’s playing a lot faster.

Fun to go back and read this thread prior to the season starting. Seems like he's met consensus expectations already around ~40 points with solid defense, with 23 games left to go. Only 8 points out from being tied for 5th all time in Devils' rookie scoring. Also fun to see people worried about the Nico v. Nolan debates, as if that's even a debate at the moment.

Wasnt the main plus with Patrick his two way play over Nico? How has he been with that? Nothing I noticed in our games against him. Idk what people were thinking with that advantage for Patrick because Nico is an incredible two way player.

To be fair, Patrick has spent most of the season recovering from offseason surgery. Apparently he’s played well since the turn of the new year. First his advanced stats started to look better and more recently he has created some offense. Sounds similar to Zacha in that regard. Next year will be the real evaluation of Patrick. He should play with real linemates and theoretically has an entire healthy offseason to train and work on whatever he and the team want him to.

Nico has surprised a lot of people and his two way game and offensive game both seem to hint at a higher ceiling than the pundits projected. I think Nico has more room to grow than Patrick based on age and physical maturity. By the end of next seaso I expect to see most of what Patrick has to offer while I could see Nico taking an extra year or more to fully blossom.

I really just can’t find a bad thing to say about the kid. He seems to always know what he can improve on, and figures it out eventually.

Just keep playing young man.

His work ethic and desire to succeed and improve as a player is what makes it so hard to gauge where he ends up. He is just so dedicated at such a young age that the sky really is the limit. He is never going to settle, he is always going to find something to improve upon as a player. This a trend of the greats.

I made an interesting exerciser. I went to the page 5 of this thread.

It is interesting to read the projections that were about Nico on oct.2017. Funy.

that tells me that we have no idea how to project the future. And that Nico, once again, outpaced expectations.

from who was thinking he would score 30pts 1st year (high end) to who was thinking he was simply not NHL ready. (low end) - 2 months later he had a cardio problem - and 40pts would be completely amazing ... ;-)

just went through a pretty impressive article on Nico : here

I did pretty good with my Nico projection. Not so good with Stafford.
I'm in for 50+ as well. Looks like he is going to play with Mojo, and Stafford has thus far proven capable of burying chances.

Our PP looks like it will have very solid talent as well.

I think a lot of people had pretty solid expectations for the kid. If he went 20/20 I would have been very very happy if I recall. In reality I expected him to end up somewhere in the 30s.

But he has really exceeded my expectations and has really come a long way through every up and downs from his season. While Bratt has leveled off a bit as of late, Nico is just getting better and better. And if he wasn't so snake bitten with goals earlier in the year he would easily have about 50 points.

Also for the most surprising thing so far is how MUCH better he has gotten at faceoffs. Has come much much farther in that aspect of his game than I expected in one season.

im most impressed by his commitment to defense. amazing for a kid his age, but he's always getting back and checking and takes a lot of pride in that aspect of his game. and he has the drive to get better. he's gonna be special
