If you guys had the option to chose between keeping Nico or flip him for Dahlin. Would you do it? As a swiss myself, i'm obviously biased and i love Nico. So please don't tear me apart for asking this theoretical question.

I wouldn't. Ive only really seen Dahlin in the WJC and I wasn't overly impressed with defensive ability. Nico is extremely complete. Wouldn't even entertain the idea in all honesty.

I keep Nico no matter what. We are already seeing him blossom into a superstar as a teen. His skillset, determination, and defensive game are off the charts. Its scary to think about what he's going to look like in another year or two.

Take Nico's skill away, the kid has a work ethic and attitude that cannot be taught. Always expects more out of himself and doesn't settle. Those traits are very significant and further show how mature of a 19 year old he is.

Then you couple in the skill with that and really couldn't be happier with him so far.

Would still like to see Nico have a game where he has four or five points and makes it look easy just to show that’s in him for the future. He’s really raised the bar set for him before the season started. Offense and defense and he plays the style NJ is looking to push. Add in the media friendly face of the franchise layer and it’s been a home run pick for NJ. Other than faceoff success and a booming outside shot it doesn’t seem like there are any real holes in his game.

The thing with Nico is he’s going to get better. He’s still undersized and immature physically. Imagine him 15-20 pounds heavier with the endurance and professional experience? It’s exciting AF to think about how much better he can actually get. 50ish points in his rookie season straight out of juniors is better than any of us realistically imagined.

I very much disagree - I think a #1D is much more valuable than a #1 center.

But I would still keep Nico, 100%. Face of the franchise, already our first line center at the age of 19 (18 earlier on)

Pitt won back to back cups with their defense being decimated by injury the past two seasons. Last year they didn't have their number one dman the entire time. The year before he was suspended for a game or two as well.

I think it’s a toss up between what’s more valuable when in recent years we’ve seen teams with better forwards than defense groups win and vice versa. With regard to the above mentioned question, I absolutely do not take that deal. I’d rather have a Nico than a Dahlin on this team.

I agree that a #1 D is the most valuable thing in Hockey...but he has to become a #1 D. And Nico Already IS a #1 center.

Serious question would you trade Nico for Aaron Ekblad right now?

Nah, #1 center is more important. Look at Nashville last year, they have 2 #1 defensemen and couldn't get it done.

They have two number one centers though as well as other great forward pieces. It's not an absolute must but at the end of the day I would rather have a #1 defenseman than a #1 center. They can just impact the game more.

Oh for sure to your first point, that's why I'd 100% keep Nico. I like Dahlin and think he can be a #1 defenseman in the NHL but that's potential talking, we're already seeing Nico prosper in his role. That's a tough question. In a silo I might make that trade but there's more context to consider, like our questionable center depth beyond Nico as well as Ekblad's concussion history. Given that I definitely wouldn't but it's an interesting question.

I think it's a bit of misnomer to refer to Crosby as #1 center in the context of this conversation... It always seemed strange to me when people go "See that team with the generational player, yeah we need to build just that"

Can't believe he won that puck battle in his skates. It seemed like that play was in slow-mo, because it was in his skates for what seemed like forever. He even rotated around his axis to find the puck and still had somehow the ability to keep it in his posession.

This kid is proving that he's the TRUE #1 PICK in this draft.

He's not EXACTLY a Game-breaker like Hall....but good lord, is he just about close to that level. wow.

And he does it without scoring. The little things.

Even Hall loves it when Nico does the little things :
