Holy bumps from the past! Obviously scoutman's predictions were WAY off, but quite frankly it's pretty tough to be accurate with 16 year olds. At the same time, kind of makes you wonder why people even bother making predictions so far in advance.

Scoutman scouts for a QMJHL team and posts about prospects in that region to give people an idea of who to watch for in the future. He usually posts about 1-2 years in advance and doesn`t post on the subject again (unless he sees some kind of aggregious error).

His posts about Nathan McKinnon for example are to highlight that he is the best forward coming out of this area since Crosby. He may not end up the best (he isn`t even in junior yet), but at this stage, he is better than Couturier was at the same age (and he went 2nd overall in the Q draft behind only Gormley).

Well our bi-annual Sauve-Doughty thread is due for another comparison

Doughty seems to have fallen down from his All-Star status but has recently earned himself a big contract. Still lots of potential to get to another level (or back to the level he and everyone else thinks he can be at)

Sauve, after a couple down seasons seems to be playing fairly solid hockey in the AHL. Still not near ready for the NHL but there is still a chance for Yann.

Scoutman does a good job and we can all appreciate having him around. But he overhypes prospects to the max. You read his descriptions and it seems like every year Eastern Canada should be producing a handful of perennial all stars. Steven Anthony and Yann Sauve are prime examples of young players that he hyped up way too much, way too early. It's just too hard to tell at 14/15 when he usually starts posting about these guys.

Damn this is funny. Sauve vs. Doughty, Mcrae (Phil?) in the same sentence as Stamkos....

It's about time for another update. Sauve spent the year mostly in the ECHL with the Manchester Monarchs. He did put up some really good numbers thought.

Doughty is entering yet another playoffs as a key cog of his team.

This is a better debate than Doughty v. Karlsson

Surprised people doubted Stamkos as a top 5 pick. That kid was a lock for a top #3 pick before the OHL draft. Only thing was Tavares stole some of his shine. But as a credit to people who had crazy expectations for Sauve, its hard to predict 15 year olds, particularly defenders. Compare Ekblad to Day, and I remember when Day got given exceptional status people thought he would be better than Ekblad due to raw tools.

Doesn't X-Sharkie scout for Winnipeg now? It's extremely tough to predict an NHL draft aft before some guys even step into junior.

I still think Yann suave could be better than doughty if he was ever given the chance in the NHL.

I remember when he had his short stint with Vancouver that he looked so out of place. It was shocking how bad his positioning was that he was the result of quite a few goals.

I bet the reason was mostly pressure. The pressure on young defense is much higher than a forward. That's why so many great young defensemen have failed... like Barker, Parent, Sauve.

In other news, I have the world's largest Yann Sauve collection...seemingly every card of him and even a rookie year Canucks jersey. Had things gone how this thread predicted a decade ago, I'd be a rich man.
