You can quibble with the term but one thing is for sure, it was imperative that the Jets got him under some sort of deal, having Morrissey hold out into the season would be a disaster for the Jets LD side.

He's played 82 games and 81 games in his 2 years in the league

Helle, Wheeler, Ehlers, Laine, Connor, Morrissey, (Trouba).
Morrissey is the safest with being a defensive D-man insead of high end offensive forward.

I don't see that at all. What about his game makes you feel that he'll be prone to injury?

Jets will pay more in the future, when the cap is higher and several vets are off the cap, or close to it. This gives the Jets nice cap flexibility for the nest two seasons, which is good for a contending team.
