The sooner people realize that everyone is going to get this new variant the better.

Lockdowns didn't stop less transmissible strains and they certainly won't help stop this one.

Shutting down a tournament of young and fit hockey players because a few of them are either asymptomatic cases or in all likelihood will experience mild or bad cold symptoms is just absurd, but fitting with the clown world we live in now.

I think we will all be resigned to covid being endemic soon enough. The sooner the better? That's debatable.

Look at what happened to Marco Rossi's season after he caught covid. It's too early to confirm our hopes that omicron is much less severe. If a dozen players were to catch covid, there's likely no bad outcome. If all the players catch it, there's a higher chance that one of their seasons gets derailed and they suffer long-term effects to their physical performance or mental capacity. For the IIHF, there's too much risk that they would be found to have been reckless if this highly-contagious variant spread throughout every team and there was a single, headline-worthy bad outcome.

I think the better approach would have been to put them in a strict bubble like they did last year.

The IIHF and Hockey Canada are not going to be the beacon that says let the players play through while testing positive ..I mean there minors playing here. That kind of avant garde thinking would have to have been agreed to going in. Its not something they are going to cook up when things turn. Even the Pros have more strict regulations than that.. re the new CDC guidelines which Canada/Provinces has not adopted yet to my knowledge. We don't like the outcome but they are not the organizations to lead the everyone is going to get it parade.

Should take your own advice on this one. You know nothing about his personal life. No one is getting sick from this strain. 1 ICU patient in 5635 current positive tests in Ottawa.
40 in hospital in Ottawa, up from 20 3 days ago.

If they were going to be so stringent about COVID policy, they should've had a bubble prepared to match it. Doesn't make sense to have one without the other.

They are counting all positive tests even if you didnt go in for covid (for something else) they are counting it. Right now on Ottawa Public Health it says 5637 active cases 8 in hospital and 1 in ICU. Here is the link. Given the news that they are counting A symptomatic people they should be basing this on ICU cases.

The Hospital sends out numbers to the staff which are much different than OPH whose numbers are quite out of date for hospitalization and ICU.

I wonder if Dorion actually travelled to Edmonton today. He said in his presser he was going to try to get out there today.

wow pretty poorly planned

should have done a bubble if you are going to cancel the tournament off covid positives

I mean, the fact that we can't take covid seriously for a month is pretty much why we keep getting dragged into these situations.

Work with a guy who was going out to Alberta to watch the world jrs, suggested that maybe going to Alberta right now might not be the best idea - he just shrugged his shoulders.

But yes, the players absolutely should have been bubbled /Hockey Canada and the IIHF should have sprung for buying out the hotels and had all players /officials be in one or two bubbles.

The point of a lockdown isn't just to slow the spread, it's also to lessen the strain on the hospitals which will be overwhelmed.

People keep thinking this is not serious & it keeps getting worse, the cancellation of this prestigious tournament is proof of that. These poor front line workers have been worked to death over the past two yrs with various strains & now there is another strain forecasting to be spread again & make their job even worse. I don't see things getting much better anytime soon, best to shut things down again & wait it out again.
