I really like the crease rule. It eliminates all of the subjective ********.

In fact, I'm 100% in favor of all things that give officials room for judgment calls/thinking.

It's easy to lose sight of how lucky we are that our team has both these guys on it. The two best players in the world and not only do they coexist without egos ever getting in the way but they are genuinely close and supportive of one another. Both levelheaded guys that were willing to accept reasonable contracts too. It's pretty much a dream scenario for a foundation to build upon. No organization could ever **** it up, am I right bros?!

Oh Geno.

Actually none of them stayed. You can see it at 3:20 here, when the Canadian anthem is about to start, there's no Russian player or management left on ice. :\ Russian players were leaving the ice before IIHF even awarded Canada the cup.

It does look like Geno, Ovi and Tikhonov wanted to stay the most? But team pressure or whatever.

The NHL should just straight up adopt international rules and seriously explore taking up the ice dimensions, too.

This would mean removing seats and selling less tickets which is a deal breaker from the word go. Unless you find a way for 30 teams to all build larger arenas then this idea, while a great one, is dead on arrival.

The only other possibilities to increase play value/goals that are left being:

Instore a maximum player size limit.

Bigger nets.

*sigh*

Dominant performance by Team Canada. It was a joy to watch, beautiful hockey.

Good to see Sid scoring again in Gold Medal Game and joining the Trible Gold Club.

Also good to see Geno and Ov showing class even if most of the Team Russia didn't do so. You can see Geno cared. Hopefully he can use this as motivation and come back stronger than ever next year and dominate (like he mostly did this year before his injury) along with Sid for the Penguins.

Sid with Triple Gold, baby! :D

Glad to see both of our stars step up big time in a gold medal game. That game was so much easier on the eyes than the crap the NHL has been putting out there of late. Thought it was funny that Malkin was paired with Kulemin and a KHLer when Tarasenko and OV were on the team, and were isolated out there with no good C support, but it made Canada's job easier if anything.

i guess, great for Sid? Geno and him are class acts, but sure would be nice to see them playing for the Penguins at this time of the year instead of other things.

Watching Ducks/Hawks play yesterday. *that* should be our team, but management has **** it up sooo much...

Does anyone else think that no matter what changes are made, aside from smaller goalie equipment and increased net size, will still result in the same product that is currently being iced in the NHL, night after night? Even if the rinks go to international size coaches will still adjust and find a way to make it more defensive and clutch and grab. That's the nature of coaching right now.

A lot of it comes down to officiating. If they start calling picks and clutching and grabbing as interference again, a lot of that will go away.

You can't trap and clutch and grab nearly as easily when the ice is bigger. There's too much ice to cover. It's the same reason why 4-on-4 on NHL ice is more exciting; more room.

Evidently the Russians should expect to be sanctioned for walking out on the Canadian national anthem according to IIHF president Rene Fasel. The article (Deadspin) also claims that Ovechkin and Malkin (along with Tikhonov and Kulikov) were trying to keep the players on the ice to no avail. This assertion is backed up by Fasel in the linked TASS article about the incident. I guess it was Kovalchuk who was waving the team off to the locker room. Which... I mean... taking off unexpectedly leaving a wake of drama is kind of his thing... so...

One way or the other... pretty poor sportsmanship. Part of playing organized sport in the attempt to get better and better and to win is also learning how to healthily deal with losing and doing so graciously and with respect to your opponent. A big part. Hell... just part of life, really.

At least Malkin found himself (seemingly) on the right end of this one. His year has already been humiliating enough.
