It just feels like we only take swings on upside with defenseman in the late 1st/early 2nd round and it's a little frustrating. We just always seem to veer towards safer projections with forwards in that range

Depends on who you ask. Sportsnet had him at 32 in their last ranking. CSB ranked him 27 among NA skaters in their final list (as one of their biggest risers), which puts him right in this range.

Yeah, I'm not sure on Nico. I was eyeing him earlier in the year, liked his 2 way game and shot but he's a below average skater and is pretty weak even though he tries to play physical. He is an older prospect so he projects as a lanky type of player who isn't quick twitch. Would have preferred a bigger swing, even a goalie like Gajan. I'm also surprised we didn't go with Gauthier instead for the similar type 2 way profile. Our hope to get our home run power forward like Nelson/Wahlberg here... maybe Nelson/Pekarcik will be available later... Nico looked more like a 3rd round type... His playoff performance wasn't very good compared to his regular season.

Nope... that is our MO... we have to take our strength with 2 way finesse dmen with being really shitty with drafting forwards... will only change when Madden leaves.
