Interesting... what does this mean for his ice time? I thought he was looking to get a fairly large roll with Kitchener next season.

I can see him playing on the top pairing with Canucks 2017 pick Brassard who just came off a breakout season.

There's a lot of young and returning talent on the Oshawa squad. They should have a potent offence and are a lock to make the playoffs. Their goaltending may be an issue but pretty deep everywhere else. By the looks of it this trade puts Gio in a better situation than to try and become a young leader on a rebuilding team like Kitchener.

It's been so long since I've seen Santeri in a lineup

It's been so long since I remembered that Santeri Virtanen existed. Didn't realize he had gone overseas, hopefully he can stay healthy and have a good year.

Niku voted #36 top prospect by your hfboard peers. Almost knocked off Juolevi.

Vesalainen was #24.

Poll section is always lots of fun in the summer.

I’m surprised they voted him that high. Would have thought the average fan would be more clueless about him. Nice to see.

I was Surprised as not many jet regulars were on the poll. Didn’t recognize many of the voters.

There is a 2015 redraft going on which Connor is at #10.

Yup.

Vesalainen ranked above several other notables from his draft, including Andersson (#7 overall), Rasmussen (#9), Liljegren (#17), Foote (#14), Brannstrom (#15), Valimaki (#16), Tippett (#10), Suzuki (#13), etc. In fact, he is ranked at #11 among 2017 draftees. Good result.

I don't unless he improves ALOT suddenly out of nowhere. We've seen what character without skill brings (Slater, Thorburn, Stuart). There's lots of good young men, I want talent and players that help Jets win games.
I don't want him to make the Jets if he's crappy. I want him to get good enough, in sort of a Josh Manson development story.

Interesting... KV above Valimaki, Liljegren, Foote, Brannstrom, and Suzuki (not even in top 50).

That expansion draft trade crowd is getting quieter and quieter lol
K Ves is a stud.

It was still a bad, needless trade given that LV would likely have taken the soon to be deemed disposable Armia. Chevy might have gotten lucky, but trust me... we'll perk up again if KV lays an egg this season in the A (or K). ;)

Oh, I'm sure that many will nurture their grievances about woulda / shoulda scenarios and will revel if KV should falter.

How good would it look if KV had not been available at 24?

Actually - it might still have been pretty good.

Still available if Vesalainen had gone earlier:
PO. Joseph
Morgan Frost
Henri Jokiharju
Eeli Tolvanen
Connor Timmins

I wouldn't be too unhappy with any of those. :)

Maybe Chevy got lucky - or maybe he made that deal knowing that the quality of picks available was pretty flat and there would not be much difference between 13 and 24. Looking at who was available it kind of looks like the latter.

My first reaction to the deal was disappointment - but credit where it is due, it appears to have worked out well so far.

Good as KV looks, I still might have preferred 1 of those RHD who might be able to replace Trouba when he leaves.
