Regular was one of my fav picks from that year. Still I like this trade. Peeling is young and has scored in the nhl. Do we have anyone playing juniors this year now ?

Sproul was a one trick pony in the Sault. Had a great short and could skate for a big man, that basically allowed him to get by with a low hockey IQ and pretty big defensive flaws.

As for the trade, I like it... I know not many are fans of Erne, but Yzerman has brought in some youth that is NHL ready.. Grit and a little skill, they either work out and give us a little hope or they fail and buy time for the prospects in grand rapids.

I'm the one who brought up Sproul. My point was just that being productive in the OHL does not mean you are going to be any good in the NHL. I see what you are saying, you make a good points about him.

Perlini looks like a guy who Detroit fans' were afraid Mantha could have been. He's a poor man's Mantha.

Mantha eclipsed 20 goals for the first time when he was 23. And has become a substantially better hockey player since then. Hope isn’t lost for Perlini to be an effective middle 6 forward.

He's proven he has some scoring touch, 23 still leaves time for development especially on our team.

I'm all for youngish scoring depth. If he works out he can play on the third line and be centered by Veleno. That could be a nice line in a couple years.

You take his career numbers by season and extrapolate them over an 82 game season, his first 3 years would be 20, 19, 17. Obviously you don’t want the negative trend, but that is a split season when he scored 17. His Chicago numbers isolated translate to over 21 goals in an 82 game season.

If we can get a 20+ goal threat for the middle six, I’ll sign up for it. It also makes a player like Athanasiou expendable at a certain point, not that we need to chase him out of town, but it’s added secondary scoring acquired cheap with team control.

Perlini had a knack for scoring at Coyotes games I attended. Decent player. Not a world beater but could be a good depth/roster guy. He was shipped to Chicago as part of the package to bring Schmaltz to Sonoran Desert.

Perlini has quite good advanced stats from Arizona, but was really bad at Chicago. There's a possibility for a bounceback. I think this trade could turn realgud for us.

Let's put him on the 1st line.

Perlini - Larkin - Mantha/Bertuzzi
Athanasiou - Filppula - Mantha/Bertuzzi
Helm - DLR - Abdelkader (Givani Smith, if Kader still injured)
Hirose - Nielsen - Svechnikov
(Glendening, Erne injured)

I liked Mantha with AA quite a lot on the last game, they should experiment that more to finally create some depth.

Let's just hope him and Svech can get some ice time... We know what Ehn, DLR, Abbedlakder and the rest bring.. And it's not much. Let the young-ish kids try to get something going.

I considered the first line thing.

Bertuzzi-Larkin-Perlini
Athanasiou-Filppula-Mantha
Svechnikov-Nielsen-Helm

Is an intriguing set up considering how little we have at our disposal this season. I don’t think I do it immediately, but like I said, Perlini reminds me of Mantha in more than one way; if it lets us drop Mantha to be the line driver on the second line, I think I can live with that.

cool. wasn't a believer in regula anyway. On the other hand, I don't necessarily have any expectations for perlini either.

This will come back to bite us. Regula is going to be a stud. "But where would he fit?", our guys are still 2-3 years away form being full time NHL D-Men. Seider, Cholo, Hronek, McIsaac, Regula, and a Vet would have been good for me.

Stud? Is he going to be above Seider and Hronek on the depth chart?

I liked Regula. Shame. But I don’t hate the deal, just wish we were trading away a guy I didn’t like, but then I know you gotta give to get.

Erne-Nielsen-Svech/Perlini
Abby-DLR-Helm

LGD-hurt...who sits when LGD is back?

Hirose goes back to GR, needs to get bigger/stronger/faster
Smith-GR

OR:

Perlini-Larkin-Bert
AA-Flip-Mantha
Erne-Nielsen-Svech
Abby-DLR Helm

Hirose-GR, same conclusion, I don't see where he fits in...small/weak/slowish
playmaking PP specialist

OR:

Perlini-Larkin-Bertuzzi
Athanasiou-Filppula-Mantha
Svechnikov-Nielsen-Helm/Erne...........think this line would work well.
Abby-DLR-Helm/Erne

OR w/Hirose:

all other lines either scenario above
Hirose-Nielsen-Erne

Svech-GR once LGD is back...I really want them to keep Svech up OVER Hirose.

2017/18 was first full season and got 17g . then last season still got 14g even though left arizona after 20 games and only played 40 for hawks . throw in the fact he was brought up in the arizona system which isnt known forr development and this could be a steal of a late bloomer . and being drafted 12th says alot

From 2012-2013-2014 drafts:

1st - #12 Perlini
1st - #15 Larkin
1st - #20 Mantha
2nd - #33 Erne
2nd - #34 DLR
2nd - #58 Bertuzzi
4th - #106 Ehn
4th - #110 Athanasiou

That forward core is really heavily built around the same age class.
