Canucks draft Luc Bourdon (rip) 1 pick later the Kings draft some dude from Slovenia.

Canucks probably win the cup in 2011 with a 1.2.3 down the middle of
H Sedin, Kopitar, Kesler

You always read these articles/post that look at re-drafting a top 10 or re-drafting the first round or in hindsight, the team at #4 overall should have taken the guy that went 55th overall who is now an all-star. Instead of that, it's pretty simple...since two guys that go back to back are generally thought of in similar regard in the draft (beyond the #1 elite prospects obviously), which team would currently benefit the most if they had drafted the player that went right after their actual selection? A couple off the hop:

2012 - Islanders take Reilly instead of Reinhart
2013 - Lightning take Jones instead of Drouin
2014 - Sabres take Leo instead of Reinhart
2015 - Arizona takes Marner over Strome, Bruins take Barzal instead of Senyshyn

May as well remove the islanders because Reinhart turned into Barzal

Minnesota has:

Carey Price instead of Benoit Pouliot in 2005.
Jake Muzzin instead of Cody Almond in 2007.
Justin Braun instead of Carson McMillan in 2007.

Missed out on a future HOF goalie and a good 2nd pair D I guess.

This is always an interesting look. I'll just go by active players:

2003:
Kings took Jeff Tambellini 27th overall. Corey Perry went 28th overall. Career difference of 703 points
Kings took Konstantin Pushkarev 44th overall. Patrice Bergeron went 45th. Career difference of 755 points.

Those two picks alone add up to 1458 points between 2 active players.

2010
Kings took Derek Forbort 15th. Vladimir Tarasenko went 16th.

Kings also had the opportunity to draft Myers in 2008, but they opted to trade with Buffalo one spot, contingent on Buffalo agreeing not to take Colten Teubert.

So if you add up the score, the Kings picked:
Tambellini, Pushkarev, Forbort, and Teubert

one spot over

Perry, Bergeron, Tarasenko, and Myers

Question for Flyers. I know you guys like Couturier. Would any rather have Scheifele?

I actually was hoping for Couturier, and had never heard of Scheifele, but would not change a thing.

With the benefit of hindsight, here's a quick list for the Devils (starting in the 90s, left out the most recent drafts):

2001: LW Tuomas Pihlman (48), LW Michael Cammalleri (49)
2002: RW Barry Tallackson (53), D Duncan Keith (54)
2005: RW Niclas Bergfors (23), RW T.J. Oshie (24); D Mark Fraser (84), G Ben Bishop (85)
2008: D Brandon Burlon (52), D Travis Hamonic (53)
2009: D Eric Gelinas (54), D Dmitri Orlov (55)

combined it has to be the bruins, who coulda had Barzal,Connor and Chabot.

I mean thats a 85pt rookie C, a 30+g rookie LW and a Dman that is leading dmen in scoring

instead they got Debrusk, who looks like a 2nd liner, and two AHLers unlikely to ever be more than depth NHL players

also though strome over marner looks VERY bad. fringe NHL talent vs dude who leads the league in primary points...

Yes I know lafontaine is a hall of famer but what if the isles drafted yzerman 3rd and then the red wings drafted lafontaine like the wings were originally hoping?

Most interesting would be Pittsburgh getting Ovechkin and Washington getting Malkin. Man, that alternate reality would define how even one little difference can change everything. I probably would still be a Capitals fan....

This is obviously super cherry picking but:

1989
#52 Hartford Whalers pick Blair Atcheynum (196GP 27G 33A 60P)
#53 Detroit Red Wings pick Nicklas Lidstrom (1564GP 264G 878A 1142P)

#73 Hartford Whalers pick Jim McKenzie (880GP 48G 52A 100P)
#74 Detroit Red Wings pick Sergei Fedorov (1248GP 483G 696A 1179P)

#115 Hartford Whalers pick Jerome Bechard (0GP 0G 0A 0P)
#116 Detroit Red Wings pick Dallas Drake (1009GP 177G 300A 477P)

#220 Hartford Whalers pick John Battice (0G 0G 0A 0P)
#221 Detroit Red Wings pick Vladimir Konstantinov (446GP 47G 128A 175P)

10 years later the Red Wings have two cups and dominate the league while the Whalers have become the Carolina Hurricanes. Scouting pays off...

That is downright nasty!

If the Oilers drafted Seguin instead of Hall, a lot of things could have played out differently.

A Center is as valuable as a Right Handed Dman.

We maybe could have likely gotten Seth Jones for Seguin or Draisaitl, instead of Nashville settling on RyJo.

do not underestimate chiarelli when it comes to losing trades
